In all honesty, I wasn't enamored with coach Dawson from the get go, so I wasn't sad to see him go. OTOH, in my opinion, Eliot isn't getting another year because he deserves one, but rather because he's coach Stoops buddy.

I have not been a fan of either of the last two OCs. I thought they were both predictable and did not get the most out of their talent. As for the defense, I wished the staff had went out got some short term help for last season. The team got beat on the edges like crazy. I don't think the coaches are dumb, I just don't think they had the players to make the plays on the edges.

I would like for Kentucky to recruit a running/scrambling QB and play him part time. If nothing else, it would give the defense a chance to improve in practice, so they don't get beat whenever the competition puts a runner in the game against them.

It seems the announcement of Barker as the starter for next year was the basic reason both QB's are leaving the program. I've read more than a little criticism in the past over lengthly qb competition. When you split reps it makes it difficult to develop one qb. Then of course there is the criticism that if you have two qb's you don't have a qb. Somewhere in all of this there obviously was a breakdown of communication between the OC and head coach with at least two qb's taking the OC side. So the schism looks like it began at the top. You obviously can't have this and that was likely why the OC was dismissed. I thought Stoops went far and beyond what was called for before replacing the starting qb. I don't think Stoops will change a basic principle that all positions are open and have to be earned. Regardless, the die is cast and we'll see how it turns out. As always, some of us are hopeful, some are not. I think we can all agree on one thing, This coaching staff can recruit talent.

Puzzling in announcing a starter for next year is to do so absent the new OC in place. Gotta be more to it than that.
Extremism is so easy. You've got your position, and that's it. It doesn't take much thought. And when you go far enough to the right you meet the same idiots coming around from the left.
