Are the starters for any other SEC team anywhere near as young?

UK starts 6 freshmen and 8 sophomores, by my count. That would be 14 out of 22 starters, underclassmen. Freshmen Asafo-Adjei and West started as freshmen at different times this season also, as did sophomores Mosier and Randolph, I think.

Of the upperclassmen, which would play or start at a school in the upper two thirds of the SEC, or have been recruited by those schools? Maybe C.J. Johnson or Hatcher...maybe. And they're both Stoops recruits, and neither got to redshirt. Forrest or Stamps could play at a few of them, maybe, but they would've arrived as walk-ons.

Or that better days are ahead, as those freshman and junior starters become upperclassmen with the benefit of more experience than most upperclassmen have, along with the strength, conditioning, maturity, knowledge, football intelligence, etc. that come with experience.

I've really enjoyed watching Chris Westry as a true freshman. I think I'll really enjoy watching him as a junior. Same for some of these other guys.

Any guesses as to where our early enrollees would fit into the depth chart?

I would imagine Jackson gets a RS year because Toth is back and a very solid C. He will only benefit having a season to grow and prepare for the SEC. I believe someone said on here Kash is expected to be in the two deep.

I know we were thin as far as upper classman, but there were some that were recruited by top programs. A.J. Stamps had offers from Ohio State, Minnesota, and Miss State. Khalid Henderson had offered from Ga, TN, and Ole Miss. Blake McClain had 12 offers and several from upper echelon SEC schools. We had a makeshift OL with guys playing out of their "natural" position. Swindle was a guard, not a tackle, but he tried and received a lot of criticism. We will finally have at least two true tackles coming in this year .... Tate and Young. While it might be best to redshirt Young, he may be too good not to plug in. I expect our offense to take a step up simply because our OL will be improved.

I sure hope the OL is improved, and expect it to be if for no other reason than experience.

I hope the same....as well as hoping a new offensive scheme ( and discipline) will help offset some of the deficiencies the line will have. There will be teams UK will just not be able to man on man whip an entire game, but good execution and tactics can win some of those mismatches.

While this incoming group of oline recruits is one of the best in the nation all, except Tate Leavitt, are true Fr. This means if players like Drake and Landon start, and/or play a lot, many times they'll be going up against older, more experienced and mature players. I've posted a link to a good article about the oline recruits.

The starters should be Leavitt, Haynes, Toth, Meyers, and George. Mosier and Meadows both add quality depth and experience. I see Stallings listed, is there any other RS guys that could contribute? With that depth I am not sure where Young fits in unless he is THAT good. Is he versatile enough to play both tackle spots? Could Jackson contribute at either G spot as a reserve?

Just read that article and it seems Young IS that good. Does that mean him and Leavitt are competing at LT? Could one of them challenge George on the right?

I expect Leavitt to lock down the LT spot this spring and big George to move inside to guard, leaving Meadows at RT with Wolf and Stenberg the backup tackles in the spring. Come fall camp Young will get every opportunity to displace one of Leavitt or Meadows and if that occurs Meadows would become the swing tackle. I don't see Jackson playing but hey, I've been wrong a time or two in the past.

So do you think George goes to LG? I don't know if he would be better on the right than Meyers.

I think George goes inside to guard but I have no clue which one he will settle in at.

I think this certainly has all the potential to be the best offensive line I've seen at UK. Not trying to be a Debbie downer, but these kids will be frosh, as Matt said, against some teams with guys getting ready to play on Sunday. I have a lot of hope....and one of those hopes is to stay away from that old injury devil. Depth has haunted us UK fans for a lotsa years...and we are just getting started battling that across the lines. Keeping fingers crossed both lines turn that corner starting this season.
