IMO, the traditional bowl season we have seen for years is going to go away or be drastically minimized. We know that the LA Bowl has already announced this years game was the last.

The biggest factor comes down to money. A lot of schools, especially those that play in the smaller bowls, lose money. If a school can choose between keeping money in the program for revenue sharing or playing in low tie bowl, they will most likely keep the money.

Like many of you, I don't mind all of the bowls as I enjoy college football in general. But I think we will see a major shift over the next few years with more CFP games added and less teams playing in bowl games.

I suspect that one of the reasons schools choose to go to money losing bowls is the extra practice days.

Could be true. In todays day and age of massive roster turnover, I wonder how much those 15 extra practices 9 months before the start of the next season actually mean.

That's a good point. They probably mean less than they used to.

But I'm all for more college football. If it was on every night, I'd watch quite a bit of it. I even watch the FCS playoffs during this time of the year. And they can't be making much money on those.

While i think it's silly to reward the mediocrity of a .500 record, bowl games do not bother me.

The standard should be 8 wins or no bowl.

Rewarding 6 wins in a 12 game season is laughable.

It's the last chance some of them have to show that they can play on Sundays and for the rest it's the last time they get to play the game they love.
Totally agree. Love college football and hate it when the season ends. I watch most all of the bowl games.

I'm MUCH more likely to watch the FCS playoffs than I am No Name Bowl between 2 teams I probably don't even know where they're located, what conference they're in and who finished 6-6.

For that matter, if UK decided (and I know there's absolutely no possibility that they would do so - none) to become an FCS school in football and was really good, i.e., made the playoffs consistently, I'd be much more pumped and excited about our program than watching UK go 4-8 in the BEST CONFERENCE IN FOOTBALL every single year. I want to see UK win football games and compete at the highest level, regardless of whether that level is FCS or FBS. I truly don't care. But, season after season after season of watching the Cats get their brains kicked in and struggling to stay out of the cellar of the SEC is hardly inspiring.

I agree totally. For decades I've wanted UK to jump to the ACC, but we all know that's not happening either.

UK might do better in another conference, but I love the SEC. For me, moving to the ACC would curb my enthusiasm for sports.
