Hiring coaches is such a crapshoot. Some succeed and some don't (captain obvious here). What makes a guy like Will Muschamp flounder when he was the "it" coordinator and a guy like Kirby Smart succeed? What makes a guy like Scott Frost fail at Nebraska while Josh Heupel has success at Tennessee? How does Luke Fickell crush it at UC and become incompetent at Wisconsin?

Unfortunately there is no secret sauce. It seems almost like it's a 50/50 shot

So … if it’s as expensive to move on from Stoops, would it matter if we don’t invest in the talent on the field. I’m ready to move on to something new, yet if we’re going to spend the buy out and not spend on recruiting talent, what’s the point.

The book answer to your question is that we either pay Stoops or suffer an similar amount in lost income. If we don't fire Mark, season ticket sales, parking, etc will be significantly below what they would be under a new coach. So we will suffer a large hit to the bottom line either way. We still have less money to invest in talent.
