I dont think the OC is any good but it really doesn't matter who we hire there as OCs overall come here to die.

Spot on. We've had some with good credentials but the only one that had much success was Coen.

I think the common denominator is Stoops. Most of the OCs had decent years before they came to Kentucky. Yet each one struggled here. I think Stoops demands ball control offense.

Would one of the moderator please edit the title of this thread? It's HamdAn not HamdEn.

If Stoops is handcuffing every OC he's ever hired, how in the world would he be able to hire anyone for that position? Why accept a job where your boss will make all of your decisions but you'll be held accountable for any failures? That just doesn't make any sense to me. A lot of jobs out there for a prospective OC. If Stoops is truly that controlling and won't allow the OC to run the offense the way he believes it should be, why accept the job? You know going in you'll have no control, no input for a system that you'll be crucified over if 'your' offense fails, BUT, you take the job anyway? That's hard to believe.

Lots would as long as Stoops isn’t here.

Why can't Stoops find a decent OC

It’s probably not quite as simple as some of our fans make it sound when complaining. I don’t think Stoops is directly influencing specific play calls moment to moment during the game or anything like that. I do think it’s hard to ignore the evidence that he may be setting the general parameters for a conservative offense though. “Pro style” system that literally plays one of the slowest tempos in the country and is so risk averse in the passing game that the intermediate throws may as well not exist, especially over the middle of the field. I just have a hard time believing that a succession of multiple coordinators arrived at that exact same method completely independently.

As to why anyone would accept that kind of position, I suspect we pay well compared to all but the most elite programs. The chance to bring life to an offense with poor recent history in a conference as prominent as the SEC is probably also tempting for ambitious coaches, and Coen is a good example of the upside that could be had from having a little success at it.

None of that means that Hamdan is blameless though. Even within the constraints that I think may actually exist to some degree, he hasn’t shown any sense of situational awareness or adaptability to the flow of the game with his calls. He’s making an already uphill climb that much worse.
