I'd say last season's inept oline play factored into Stoop's decision to retain Hamden. The way the oline performed last season it was difficult to tell how competent or incompetent Hamden was.

Has no feel for the game whatsoever, imo. Of the 22 or so passes we threw, how many were >20 yards? What's our completion % on long throws - maybe 5%? And they seem to occur at weird times and result in a wasted play. Some of the pass plays were not a bad call but only if they were intermediate throws and not bombs. At least now we know Law and Gilmore will split the duty of futilely attempting to chase down overthrown bombs, replacing Barrion Brown in that role.

And, I'm about done with Brad White, too. Our style of play always lets the other team creep back into the game. From what I saw, it appears to be on the back end where we play soft. We still had 4 guys rushing and putting some pressure on the QB but receivers had plenty of space to roam around in our soft zones.

Had we have had a more accurate QB, some of those long passes would probably have been completions. I hope Stoops doesn't go most of the season with Calzada unless he improves a lot.

I'm not so sure about that. He threw into double coverage a few times. He had some overthrows as well. He doesn't seem to have a good base when passing. I don't know if that's the lack of time to throw or poor mechanics. Seemed a bit of both today but more of the latter. Really not a great spot to be in if you have those issues and a ranked Ole Miss coming to town next week.

I think Stoops needs to go, but some of you at least need to try to be happy. For the last ten years we've heard everyone complain that he doesn't keep his OC around long enough, and he finally keeps one for a second year and we complain that he does.

This year is going to be rough, but we have to have a bad year for Mitch to get rid of him. Let's get through three wins this year and move on to Sumrall.

I do not care who the OC has been under Stoops, they scheme that worked for them elsewhere is trashed and we have Stoops putting the lock down on the OC. He can lie and say he is not involved but there is no way he is not involved. If Stoops could he would play defense the whole game and try to win from that side of the ball.

Boley will get in because this team isn’t gonna win a single game in the SEC. The fans will turn on Stoops soon. Take away that one long run and they could have lost. The running game looked good.

Dunno this fascination with the deep throws, few of which were particularly close. Today reminded me of repeated deep attempts to hit Barion Brown last year. Agree completely on Hamden — down and distance seems to elude him.

Exactly. I stated in another thread that we now know who will take BB's reps at futilely running after overthrown bombs - Law and Gilmore. It's such a huge outlier when we complete one of those. Rodriguez had a big play before the fumble and that pass was maybe 12 yards beyond the LOS. Throwing prayers 40+ yards downfield is losing football.
