I don't mind calling a pass play in that situation at all. But, we are atrocious at completing long passes. A midrange, 10-15 yard pass would be a better option, imo. OL has been just OK against a good MAC team. Doesn't bode well for the rest of the season. Why is Maclin not playing? Haven't seen him targeted since the first quarter. Hamdan/Calzada are NOT taking what the defense is giving and are forcing things too much.
Actually, I don't have a problem with that sequence. You are at 2nd and 3, it's a good time to try and stretch the field since you have a short yardage situation on 3rd down.
Thing is, our players are not to bright. They are out of position and the line is leaking from every gap. Thanks to the leaking Oline the game is to fast for Calzada right now. He is struggling hard to get through progressions while still keeping a count in his head. We also seem to have running backs that aren't aware that part of their job is to block.
TL/DR: The offense is a dumpster fire and has not improved.
I'm just really down on Hamdan. He seems way over his head, again.Comment

I don’t know if anyone else caught it, but the announcers said something fairly early in the game to the effect that Calzada can make all the throws, but Stoops and Hamdan don’t want him to, just to make the safe plays and let us be more physical than the other team. It’s very hard to consistently win big games that way in 2025 to begin with, and we aren’t really physically dominating Toledo today. I’m afraid it’s going to be a very long year for the offense.Comment

And that's a huge indictment of the program.
Offense is barely better than last year's so far. D is playing well but I believe they're undersized and will get manhandled in SEC play.
At least we're not committing a ton of penalties. So, we've got that going for us.Comment
