    Predictions for offense

    3000 yards passing?
    TDs-to-Ints?
    Leading rusher?
    PPG?

I want to believe that the offense will be sufficiently better, I really do. I think Calzada and Boley both have the potential to be better than Vandagriff (low bar, obviously). The OL, by default, can't be worse, but not convinced it will be a lot better.

One of my biggest concerns is Hamdan. For long stretches of games last year, he showed no feel for the game and play calling. Was that a product of bad OL, poor QB play, certain players needing touches, etc? Maybe. But it could also be that his lack of skill at setting up and calling plays made all of those factors worse.

If we're going to have a snowball's chance of reaching .500, the offense has to be much better.

    But, will it be?

I don't expect 3000 yards passing. I would guess 22 TDs to 10 Ints. RB by committee with the leader having 550 yds. Ppg...let's go with 26 but only 19 in SEC games.

I normally reserve any predictions until the nearly end of fall practice. I want to see if there are any roster changes, coaching changes etc. Also want to get some reports from practice.

      Let me be wrong.
Going forward, Christian Laettner volunteers to catch any dildos flung on a basketball court - or anywhere else.

At least they focused on shoring up the OLine through the portal. That can make a lot of difference, but will be interesting to see how the revamped line gels.

Prediction that Boley is our starter out of fall camp with Calzada as the back up. Turnovers are an issue early, but Boley finishes strong. Patterson and Wilcox allow Boley and the pass game to settle in, and the revamped receiver room pays off.

Ball control style game with a balanced run pass attack. Copious amounts of maalox mashers and high drama. Have no idea who our kicker is but we could have used another year of Raynor. Depth will be a problem.

It should work out in theory but I'm not to high on Stoops and COs ability to pull it off. If he can solve the on field discipline problems then he might be able to salvage a six win season.

This is the one time where I simply don't have any idea what to expect from the offense. I'm not fully sold yet on Hamdan. He could still be great, he could be average, he could be below average. But I can't make that call until I see what he can do with a better roster than what he had to work with last season.

I'm admittedly a pessimistic football fan, but I am really struggling to find six wins on this schedule.

Hard to know for sure but Stoops has proved in the past to want a ball control offense and control possession. I'd say we see the passes go back to screens or short outs. Hamdan has a history of balanced offense but that means our line if going to have to be as good pass blocking as run blocking. With all the new players the playback has to stay simple....and that's okay as long as they can run a few plays to perfection.

If we start the season seeing six to ten sacks and as many QB hurries we know what we got.

Defensively I will go ahead and beat the dead horse and state the bend don't break defense is useless against almost every P4 team we will play. With no pressure up front the secondary relies on pure luck against a P4 quarterback given 4 to 6 seconds to pass. Our front line will have to man up and play more like Georgia than Georgia State.

My fingers will be crossed every game.

The Kicker is likely Jacob Kauwe. A Freshman who is supposed to have a big leg. As for Stoops, I think it’s going to take seven wins for anyone to regain any sort of confidence in him. I think if we can make a Bowl game, then maybe someone out there will take a flyer in Stoops and give him the sort of out Tubby Smith and Cal took advantage of.

We know virtually nothing about this offense, or any aspect of it.

                      * The OL is almost entirely new, but with several guys who performed well in their previous locations. Depth should be better, but I am not sold on Wolf knowing how to use it.
                      * Patterson and Wilcox showed a LOT of potential, and they are joined by two highly touted newcomers. Will they stay healthy and happy?
                      * The WR room is full of new faces. Can a couple of them emerge as genuine threats?
                      * Like the OP, I am not ready to turn the QB position over to Calzada (sp?) although he did put up big numbers vs lesser competition. Boley can sling it, but he has precious little experience.
                      * Above all, as already noted, we really know very little about our OC. He is unusually articulate for a football coach and talks a great game. Can he deliver?
                      * And then, Stoops penchant for a ball-control offense hangs over everything. I understand his desire to control the ball vs SEC offenses, but will it drag down our own offense?

And, just slightly off-topic, if Stoops somehow finds a way to win even 6 games against this schedule, he should be a coach of the year candidate.

The offensive line will be critical to any success we have, either passing game or run game. Even they have shored up the line with transfers, the best offensive lines are ones with line that have not only experience, but experience together. That is hard to come across this day and age. You have to know how the guy next to you is going to play. I like Boley, but I am not sure he would be durable enough. He is fairly thin. Calzada has better size for the physicality of the SEC. My bet is you will see both early on. I think if Wilcox can keep his head in the game he will be a good one. No matter how good the receivers are if the QB doesn't have time for the routes to develop before he gets chased down it will not be good.

If we see more than one quarterback in a game for more than 1 or 2 plays I will believe Mark Stoops has been kidnapped and replaced.

Is that what happened last year when Wimsatt and Brock both played in a number of games?

Just my opinion, but if Brock had been healthy all season I doubt we would have seen Wimsatt nearly as much as we did.
