Rams OC- Edit: Coen to LA Rams

The worst thing about this, of course, is the timing.

I guess I am playing Mr Obvious with that comment. But, the timing is not only bad because Spring Football is right around the corner, but because it limits the time Stoops has to hire a replacement. I am sure there are a great many OC candidates who would be eager to jump aboard. But, does Stoops have time to sort them out? I suppose CMS has been working on this situation since the possibility of losing Coen first surfaced. Still, it will be a daunting task to pick the right guy in such a short time frame. And, I think he must, as I cannot imagine going through Spring ball with an interim OC.

edit: one of the rumored candidates is Rams Assistant QB Coach, Zac Robinson. Just did a quick check on him. The former OK State QB has a pretty decent resume.

That’s a lot of turnover with the staff. Going to take a great hire to keep building on what started last year. Crud!!

Apparently Stoops already has someone lined up. Not certain about this, but I heard he’d pulled someone else from the Rams’ tree.

If so, that's a wise move for continuity.

Someone, on Twitter, said "if he brings Gran back I'm turning in my season tickets". I don't think that's a possibility unless coach Stoops couldn't find anyone else.

Far as I can tell, this was first reported by Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated. By now numerous other sites are also report it. However, best all I can, they all seem to be crediting SI. It does seem strange that there has been nothing (that I've seen) from the Rams, UK, or ESPN. This as of 12:53 Pacific time.

Certainly cannot fault a guy for going from middle of the pack SEC to super bowl champs with the same level job—coordinator position. Now doesn’t have to recruit 24/7/365. Assuming he was in fact offered the job then it really was a no brainer. He helped us in his one year here. But doesn’t make me a Rams fan.

No shame at all in losing your OC to the reigning super bowl champs, and can’t blame a guy for taking an OC position in the NFL.

Coen is a dang good football coach and the improvement in our offense in year 1 was striking. People seemed to think he’d either be a HC or an big time coordinator before long, so it doesn’t seem hugely surprising.

I'm fairly sure Coen is/was the QB coach in addition to OC. I've heard Scott Woodward, the current WR coach mentioned. as a possibility.

I meant the WR coach Woodard.

With all the buzz around other candidates maybe that fell through, but I thought it was being "quietly" reported a month ago that UK knew Coen might leave and that Woodward had been groomed for the position so they could keep the new system rolling. The new O-line coach has said Coen was still in the office doing spring practice "install" last week. It's pretty clear to me that whoever is the play-caller they are staying with this offense.
