Mark Stoops expected to remain as the head football coach at Kentucky

Breathe easy, Big Blue Nation. Sources inform Kentucky Sports Radio’s Matt Jones that Mark Stoops is expected to remain in his role as the head coach of the Kentucky football program.

“I believe that Mark Stoops and Mitch Barnhart reached an agreement on over the weekend about changes that need to be made in the program. And I now feel confident in saying that Mark Stoops will remain as the coach at Kentucky,” Jones said on Tuesday’s KSR radio show.

“The changes that will take place will include the building of the (practice) facility — whether it’s this current one or another without the track or a new one — the recruiting budget and support staff in general. I think pretty much everything that was wanted ended up occurring. It’s great news. I feel very good about the whole thing. It was Saturday before the game against Louisville.”

With this, UK has its own Barry Alvarez/Frank Beamer type guy. Stoops is the perfect coach at Kentucky and contracts are meaningless except for financial agreements these days, but feels like he's here for the long haul. Let's put his name on the freakin' stadium.

    Let's freaking go!

Beamer was the blueprint I wanted when Stoops was hired. We’ve tried the new coach every few years when one struggles a bit. I wanted to give a guy the time to learn on the fly and see what he could build in 10 or 12 years with some continuity and stablility that recruits could count on. It’s working out pretty well.

It is, and it's crazy we almost ran him out of town. Had Austin McGinnis not hit that field goal against Mississippi State, Stoops might not be here. He's got it rocking and rolling now and if he can keep Marrow I think he will be in good shape.

The following is an excerpt from a seaofblue article regarding coach Stoops new contract:
The contract continues guaranteed extensions for any season with seven wins (one-year extension) or 10 wins (two-year extension). The agreement takes into account the Wildcats’ current 9-3 season, which already had earned a one-year extension through June 2027, regardless of the outcome of the Wildcats’ upcoming bowl game.

In essence, this gives coach Stoops the equivalent of a life-time contract.

Of course, this is FANTASTIC news.

Now, we need to turn our attention to the assistant coaches. Liam C is rumored to be in contention for the UMass job and Jon Sumrall has been mentioned in connection with the opening at Troy. Realistically, it is only a matter of time before both of those guys move on. However, it sure would be nice to get a couple of more years out of them first.

His name is starting to speak for itself. Now if we could just get out of the SEC. 😂😂

Don Brown already took the UMASS job. Sumrall, on the other hand, may very well go to Troy.

Having a staff that is rumored to be going elsewhere is a good thing. Coen obviously isn't ready anytime soon. The next staff move (if I had to guess) will either be White getting a head gig somewhere and Sumrall taking the DC, or Sumrall getting a DC job elsewhere. I would think Sumrall leaving would be more likely.

There's some talk that Sumrall may get the HC job at Troy.

Interesting. I hadn't heard that anywhere. With Troy they can take the chance on a young guy without much experience. I would've guessed he would've left for the DC job at a power five school.

I don't recall where I read it, probably on Twitter, or who said it. If he did get the job, and was successful, he might be able to parlay it into a bigger gig (such as Neal Brown going from Troy to WVU).

I have read half a dozen times that Summrall is the "favorite" for HC at Troy.
