SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey has since released a statement in which he made it clear the league will do everything to ensure this never happens again.

“The Conference has established expectations for behavior and sportsmanship, and the actions of fans at Saturday night’s game were unacceptable under any circumstances,” Sankey said. We are accustomed to intense competition every week, but under no circumstances is it acceptable to endanger the contest participants and disrupt a game.

“We will review existing Conference policies and the Commissioner’s authority to impose penalties and communicate with the leadership at the University of Tennessee – and all of the SEC’s member universities – to make certain this situation is not repeated.”

^^^^If anything happens, I am shocked.
UT will say 'just crazed fans'. SEC will fine a 100k which some booster will pay in McDonalds bags, and there will be vague threats of forfeiting games....which will all be considered after the season.

Someone was stating they needed to forfeit their next home game...which being Georgia would give them I guess a 1 to zip loss.

I guess if UTs president and board of regents was serious, they would shut it all down for the season...lolololol...like that would ever happen.

Money will flow, chest pounding and finger pointing, and Vol recruiters will tell prospects this is how much folks care about football!!!

Hopefully they can find a way of punishing the minority of fans who participated in this without punishing the ones who did not. I will be very surprised if the SEC orders forfeits or even no fans at a future game. I do expect a stiff fine.

Probably 1% of the fans. Maybe 2%. That's 2,000 out of 100000. But that's plenty.

If UT were forced to forfeit remaining games, that punishes other teams financially.

Thamel calls for no fans at the Georgia game with a full refund to ticket holders. This is fine, but vendors that earn their paycheck from the stadium go WHA...???

Probably will see the following: 250 K fine to Tennessee,
public apologies from UT, the AD and Heupel to Ol Miss,
addressing complaints and issues from Mississippi and upset UT fans.

Heuple has already issued statements of unapproval for fan behavior, as has the Chancellor of UT.

Expect the SEC to issue policies of this behavior (if caught) leading to season or years long banishment from games for the guilty fan.

Also expect the University to be put on public probation by the SEC and double secret probation as well....in other words if UT fans think they havent been getting good calls, just wait till you see what comes next.

Biggest problem for Tennessee is this was an ESPN game..tweets are from ESPN, the Sporting News, full story on Yahoo right now...........

And its given Sankey and the SEC office a black eye.
          UT should expect no favors.

So do they have tape/video of what section this came from? I’m guessing the student section, but I don’t know. This being said,a very ugly situation happened this past year at Sewanee (yes, a Tennessee school) and they knew it was students because of Covid that’s all who were allowed on campus and attend. To find the culprits they asked the other students to turn the guilty parties in. If they didn’t they were going to shut down games if not all sports. I believe they caught them. Harsh punishment helps deter future wrongdoing IMHO.

They’re probably just going to have a fine, be required to give the appropriate public lip service, and as Bill said some double secret threats probably have been issued.

Frankly though, a game without fans might help those buffoons self-police some next time.

I want to think that wouldn’t happen at UK, but it could. Goodness knows we’ve hurled some insults and done goofy things over the years. I can’t remember anything remotely close to this bad though.

Unfortunately, I remember oranges thrown at UT players at Rupp....some stuff in the Pitino years when he had to take the mic and lecture the fans.
in football....well. if the Snell ejection had happened at Kroger field.....dunno.

Schools pay fines not fans. Huge in game penalties might have more effect than fines. If fans know they are making matters worse for their team they might be more inclined to stop. You can still have the fines too but best way to punish fans is penalize the team.

What a lot of non-UT fans and writers are suggesting actually is fan ban for the Georgia game...with refunds to ticket holders. That revenue loss would likely be several hundred of thousands of dollars to the University (cost of 100,000 ticket refunds) as well as punishment to the fan base.

Anyone who had Knoxville TV access in the 70's remembers this PSA. The title was true then, true now, true forever. They have always been beneath contempt.

I've been back over to VolNation and it seems like the majority has shifted to being embarrassed/outraged about the conduct. They also seem to have figured out that we are good and now consider it a winnable game for them rather than a sure thing.

Reports floating around their starting QB had a pretty bad knee injury. I would hate that for the kid...he was having a good season

Per a post on Vol Nation, the SEC has fined UTn $250,000 for Sat nights action. So much for sending a strong message that this kind of behavior will not be tolerated. What a joke!

                              250,000 from league revenues.

                              Okay.

Should have been 500K to 1 Mil.
