    Penn State QB to UK

It is being reported that former Penn State QB, Will Levis, will indeed transfer to UK. This could be fantastically great news. He is reportedly very mobile with a rocket arm, and our new OC is VERY high on him.

But ... I am not sure how I feel about this.

We were already going to have a hard time keeping Gatewood and Allen happy. Nick Scalzo (sp?) entered the portal and Stoops talked him into coming back. We have the highly touted in-coming freshmen. And, what does this do to our chances with the dual threat QB from KY who is being recruited by everybody? (Sorry, these names are all escaping my aging mind.)

We know first hand that you “can never have too many QBs.” I am starting to wonder if that is really true.

You cant have too many if they start getting injured. At least one of our current guys will leave. Perhaps two if this plays out.

Well, we have FIVE now, at least three of whom believe they should be the starter. And that does not include Gavin Wimsatt, who I KNOW we want badly.

I guess the staff will work it out.

We essentially have gone throughout the entire Stoops era without a QB. Why would I worry about losing a guy now?

We desperately need an effective QB now, and if that causes somebody to transfer then that’s just part of competition.

Love to see this team rip off 9-10 regular season wins and then top it off with a bowl win. I hate saying this out loud because I've watched the Cats for a while, BUT, I don't think we're that far away. Having a seasoned QB transfer in is all to the good. As Matt mentioned, it would be nice to have a QB a step above what we've had, and I'm not bashing anyone. It seems obvious. Our offense is going to have speed all over the field which sure helps in the SEC.

I'm not sure what our QB situation is. Just when I think I may have a handle on it, sort of, something like this transfer jumps up and I find myself scrambled again. Nothing wrong with competition in sharpening everyone's skills. Sharpening skill sets takes repetitions. I'm not sure how you work in enough reps for 3 QB's much less 4 or 5. Guess we'll just see who can get the ball in the hands of our play makers.

and there it is. Like several coaches have said a quarterback is more apt to transfer than any position. Just nature of the business and competitive spirit.

Well, this young man isn't coming here to sit, but neither are Gatewood, Allen and Scalzo. Spring practice, if there is one, should be interesting.

That's why we'll probably see one or two of the QB's transfer.

For the last few weeks I've been seeing a video going around on IG of a QB throwing absolute dimes in practice sessions. I'm talking gorgeous passes: high velocity, tight spiral, on the money, wherever he wants on the field. Just a really impressive arm by almost every imaginable metric, but until yesterday I didn't know who it was.

Turns out it was Will Levis. If he can do during games what he does in that video, we'll have a serious QB competition on our hands. Someone who would know described Levis as being more equipped for the position than anyone we've had since Woodson. I read (but can't confirm) that he won't arrive in time for spring practice, but either way, the guy may be the real deal. If nothing else, I think we're going to have more legitimate options at QB than we've had in a long time (and Gatewood could easily wind up being third in line, which I can't imagine he'll love).

Since Scalzo was mentioned above, I'll add this (and it's just my opinion): with what we now have in front of him, the only way he'll ever see the field is if COVID wrecks his competition or Tonya Harding decides to step in and help him. He probably should've transferred when he was ready to a few weeks ago.

Saw the same video. He can absolutely sling it. Of course doing it in a game is a different beast. No offense to Terry, but I doubt he could make those throws in practice. Regardless of who is our QB, throw out everything we have seen the last few years. Not saying we are gonna be Mumme with a defense, but it will be a total offensive overhaul. I can’t wait to see how Spring ball shakes out. I just may get season tix this year that’s how excited I am. We are loaded with offensive talent that has been begging to break out.

As understand the rules, Lewis has to be a student at UK to participate in spring practice. And as I understand it he has to remain at Penn St for the spring semester to complete his degree. So, unless there is a loop-hole he can dance through, he will not be at spring practice. As I vaguely remember things there was player who transferred from FSU to Alabama under somewhat similar circumstances years ago. He got around the issue by completing his degree by correspondence form FSU while enrolled at Ala. Maybe Lewis could do something similar?

Another consideration regarding potential transfers out: Aren’t players allowed only a 1-time transfer? If so, then I do not think Gatewood could transfer again. But, admittedly, I do not know the details of this rule.

From what I have read, Levus will finish the year at Penn State, graduate, then transfer. He should have immediate eligibility.
I have to wonder if Scalzo will ever see a field anywhere because of the injuries. That may have something to do with withdrawal from the portal.
going to be at least a three horse race for QB.
And yeah....with UKs history of sticking with a starter, I would say at least two guys will enter the portal.

For anyone interested, there is a transfer link on the web.
The number of quarterbacks transferring is staggering.

Florida and Oklahoma are absolutely LOADING through the transfers.

It's like JUCO, except you know most of these kids are not only known quantities, but you are sure they are eligible.

Just to clarify my post a little, there is a link to the transfer portal online through EA Sports.

There are 125 quarterbacks that have entered the portal.
Some names we know...Terry Wilson, Danny Clark again. Jason Pass who looked to be the next big thing at Louisville until Petrino threw him in against Alabama his first game...and ge didnt quite ever recover.
Three QBs from Tennessee. Some have found slots, others not. In fact, Kentucky has three qbs in the portal with Wilson, Scalzo (returning) and Johnathan Mosely....who was unrated out of high school and likely walked on.

It's the wild west out there.
