While we’ve lived through many challenges (or maybe only conversations and speculation) one of my fears has always been Stoops being lured into the Big10. It’d be easier for him IMO. He’s from that part of the world. Hope they fill this fast with someone else. UGH.

They hired Dantonio away from Cincinnati, and I think they will likely try to land Cincinnati's current coach as his replacement. I don't think Stoops would be interested in the Michigan State job, at least not at this point.
Do you remember who was Dantonio's predecessor as Michigan State's coach? Hint: he went 8-5, 5-7, 5-7, and 4-8 in his four seasons there. Second hint: He lost to Kentucky in his last season elsewhere before going to Michigan State. -

That was my first concern when hearing the news last night. But, I do not think he would go. If Gran wanted to be a head coach, he could have done so long ago.Comment

A domino impact such as this is also troublesome. Layer Marrow’s name into this mix. I only hope they are all pleased with the progress they’ve made at UK, in a school that has struggled for consistency for so long and want to put their stamp on history by helping it rise to the top of the SEC, the best football conference in the country. They’ll be legends our great-grandchildren will read about. GO CATS!👍 1Comment

A comparison of the rankings of Kentucky's and Michigan State's recruits this year from Ohio and Michigan:
Ohio
Rivals rankings:
Kentucky: #4, 8, 11, 21, 22, 23
Michigan State: #16, 20, 46, 51, 55
24/7 rankings:
Kentucky: #4, 8, 10, 19, 22, 39
Michigan State: #20, 21, 40, 42, 50, 51, 55
Michigan
Rivals rankings:
Kentucky: #1, 17, 26
Michigan State: #12, 18, 20
24/7 rankings:
Kentucky: #1, 11, 16
Michigan State: #15, 20, 22
24/7 ranks Kentucky's incoming class #23 in the nation, with Michigan State at #43. Rivals says Kentucky's is #21 and Michigan State's is #39.
Rivals says Kentucky's class is #8 in the SEC and Michigan State's is #10 in the Big Ten (Kentucky's would be #5, or #4 if Drennen pushes them past Nebraska). 24/7 says Kentucky's class is #9 in the SEC (up from 12 last year), Michigan State's is #10 in the Big Ten (down from #7 last year) (and again, Kentucky's would be #5, or #4 if Drennen pushes them past Nebraska).
Kentucky is 32-20 the last four years. Michigan State is 27-24. Kentucky had a better record in three of the past four seasons. In the past four seasons Michigan State went to the Holiday, Redbox, and Pinstripe Bowls (staying home one year) while Kentucky went to the Gator, Music City, Citrus and Belk bowls.
Number of wins in the past four years against P5 teams that finished with a record better than 7-6:
Michigan State: 6 (Indiana, Wake Forest, Penn State, Michigan, Penn State, Washington State)
Kentucky: 8 (South Carolina, Florida, Mississippi State, Missouri, Penn State, Louisville twice, Virginia Tech - four of those wins were on the road, and two were at neutral sites)
(In the past four years, Nebraska has beaten one P5 teams that finished better than 7-6: MInnesota, back in 2016.)Last edited by Old School; 02-05-2020, 11:04 PM.Comment

Mark Dantonio gave up his coaching job. He said he wanted to spend more time with family.
In other news, Bobby Petrino took a head coaching job. He said he wanted to spend more time with family.👍 1Comment

UK is now a better job the MSU. (way better) I'm not worried.Originally posted by John Stuart MillHe who knows only his own side of the case knows little of that... Rivals updated after yesterday and has Kentucky #20 in the nation, Michigan State #39.
Kentucky is right between Florida State and Notre Dame. Florida State is somehow just ahead of Kentucky, even though both have 8 4* kids, but only Kentucky has a 5* kid. Similarly, North Carolina lands just ahead of Kentucky, with 9 four star kids (zero 5*) vs 8 4*s and a 5* for Kentucky.
A top 20 recruiting class is so far from where the program was under Joker (and others).
Rivals has the Wildcats 8th in the SEC, passing South Carolina.👍 1Comment
