SOURCES: Vince Marrow is in talks with Youngstown State for head coaching job

Could Vince Marrow leave Lexington this offseason? He’s at least considering it.

This morning on Kentucky Sports Radio, Matt Jones broke the news that Marrow is in “conversations” with Youngstown State regarding the program’s head coaching job.

“[He] has had conversations with Youngstown State and is now in the process of deciding what to do,” Jones said this morning. “I cant speak to [whether or not an official offer has been extended], but from what I’m hearing, Vince is taking it seriously. This isn’t a theoretical thing, this is something he’s taking seriously.”

In my opinion, this would be a major blow to coach Stoops rebuilding effort.

Good for him not great for us if he takes the job.

He's earned the attention he's getting and should take a Head Coaching offer seriously. We need him at UK to continue building our program, but I wish him well if he takes this offer.

Sorry for the typo. The L is next to the K, and my old fingers don't always go where I aim them.

I would bear him no ill will, but I see this as a major problem. Being able to recruit top talent is the lifeblood of any program, and I doubt if there's anyone in the nation better at recruiting top talent than coach Marrow. Without going back and looking it up, I'd say coach Marrow has been directly responsible for at least 50-60 per cent of the recruits that have come to UK since he's been here.

                I know. Just teasing.

His ability to connect with these kids will be missed. But he has helped us build a foundation of talent and the foundation of a winning program, Leaving will not undo what he has helped build. I didn't know he had a interest in being a head coach. I'm certain he tells kids to go where their hearts tell them. The biggest draw of Youngstown is that it is home and "they" want him. If he decides to go I will thank him for what he has done and wish him the best. There are more than a few of us who won't forget what he has done here. I'm hopeful that the program has grown enough that we will be able to keep the momentum going forward. Another winning year would likely bring higher profile head coaching opportunities, but they wouldn't be Youngstown. Life's choices can be really difficult.

Could possibly have something to do with Mike Stoops to UK rumors in that if we lose Vince we'll want to maintain recruiting ties in Ohio.

Pony up Mitch...make it REAL hard for him to leave!

According to Tom Leach based on what bo Pellini made there it will be a pretty good pay cut. He wants to be a head coach someday.

If he leaves, it will be to begin fulfilling his aspiration to be a head coach plus going home to do it. YSU will not be able to win a bidding war with UK if it comes to that.

I agree. Pay the Coaches what it takes Mitch!

I love Coach Marrow, and his contributions to this program have been immeasurable. And, I totally agree that he is an elite recruiter and among the very best in the country.

That having been said, I do not see him as a head coach. I know that is what he wants, and if it happens, I wish him the best. But I am just not convinced that it is a good career path.

The problem is, and you may be right, the only way for him to know is to try it. Then if it doesn't work out, it'll be too late for us.
