    QB rumblings

Reading some reports today that according to Coach Stoops, Hoak will get extensive prep time this week.
    (Don't shoot the messenger)
    '
Statement (from Coach) indicated that videos showed several open receivers but Terry didn't pull the trigger. Question was asked Wilson if this is a confidence problem and reply was 'i don't think so.'

Now, there is Coach speak all the time to revitalize kids, or soothe parents, or let the fan base know 'yes, I SEE'....

But sometimes there is more than that.

After reading this, I expect TW to loosen up his arm against the weakest pass defense in the SEC.

There is no doubt who will start. This is Wilson's gig. Just curious as to what the response will be.

I was just on Twitter. It sounds as if Wilson is going to be on a short leash Sat. Also, it appears Chance Poore will be in the game at some point.

I could well be wrong again, but comments after the aTm game led me to believe Stoops wanted to make a change but Gran talked him down. Dunno. I think he feels confident enough in the defense and the running game he is willing to toy a bit with the quarterback slot.

I think Wilson is our future, but giving Hoak some snaps won't hurt at all, unless he looks real bad, which I don't think he will do.

It's a really tricky call. Wilson has a 6-1 record as a starter, but has shown some real deficiencies in the passing game, which may or may not be some, mostly, or all his fault. I don't know whether the players would react positively or negatively to him playing or being benched, or Hoak getting or not getting time on the field. If Wilson doesn't play well, criticism is a lesser concern than on-field results. If Hoak doesn't play or doesn't play well the same thing is true. Danny Clark shows promise, IMO. Saying something about it now may be targeted to the players as much as to fans or the media; why give Missouri a hint about what they might face? There are other potential complications: what if the weather in Columbia is windy and/or rainy; do you rein in the passing game and stick with Wilson, or do you give Hoak some time either to throw or minimize turnovers?

The upside of all of this is that UK's roster has three well regarded QB prospects vying for time.

This staff has assembled depth a plenty. We have a 4/5 star tackle out the year with injury, and the winning drive against Vandy had three second string linemen plowing.

Paschal hopefully back next season. Rodriguez, Smoke...man the future looks good.

It's definitely good to get Hoak some reps with the 1st team, ideally you'd like to see that every week especially with the inconsistencies with Wilson throughout the year. I'd start Wilson and keep him on a regular leash and unless UK is trailing, I'd keep him out there (even if it like the game against Vandy).

When you don't have a stand out QB I don't see any reason why you can't play someone else at least a couple of series. That at least throws a change up at the defense and could get them off balance a little. When Hoak came into the game against CMU he gave them a huge shot in the arm IMO. No reason he couldn't do that again.

The downside can be that switching QBs disrupts rhythm, chemistry, timing, etc., and players may be distracted by the changes or react negatively if they think someone is getting more or less time than they should. Not denying the potential upsides you mention; just noting it can be a double edged sword.

Is it wrong that I hope that UK completely shuts down Mizzou and former Clemson starting QB Kelly Bryant takes a liking towards Uk to finish his final season in Lexington?

That is when you just have to trust the coach and his decision making on something like this. He cannot usually say, publicly, changing a QB will do any of those things but he should know since he with them everyday in practice.
