Seeing the names of Sonny Collins, Houston Hogg and I'm sure Mark Higgs will be mentioned later bring back memories of my time in Owensboro in the 60's & 70's. I remember seeing Collins play for Madisonville and Higgs at Owensboro Senior. Both were great running backs but the one player that impressed me the most was Houston Hogg when he played for 1 season at Daviess County. He had a run against Owensboro Catholic that I still remember to this day. A defensive back for OCHS layed the shoulder just below the hip as Hogg raced down the sideline. I was expecting Hogg to get knocked out of bounds, but the man never missed a stride and the d back looked in disbelief as Hogg took it to the end zone. Hogg didn't have a stellar career at UK being he was one of the first blacks to play in the SEC for UK and reading stories of his teammates not blocking for him, but I guess players like him opened the door for Sonny Collins and Mark Higgs to have the great careers at UK.
