That episode sucked, but the whole series has been pretty crappy for a while now. Tonight's episode, though, was exceptionally awful. Even for a zombie show the violence was gratuitous, and Negan is officially nothing more than a caricature. To say Jeffrey Dean Morgan overacts would be an understatement. Negan is hammy as hell and I can't take him seriously. But again, that excessive violence - nothing entertaining about that. Felt more like a snuff film.

    Now, ***SPOILERS***

Why the whole dumpster rug yank with Glenn only to kill him off tonight? All that did was dull the impact of tonight's moment. Same goes for Rick once again relinquishing his leadership role, and his sanity: how many times are we supposed to believe that he can come back from this stuff and be A.) sane, and B.) a competent leader?

This show is a piece of garbage, and has been since Frank Darabont skipped the set.

Lazy writing, boring characters, no forward momentum as far as story is concerned. It's popularity baffles me; it literally is rinse-wash-repeat every season, highlighted by some gory zombie kills and one or two "beloved character" deaths. They move to a new settlement; nothing happens for the better part of ten episodes; there's a complete breakdown of society; a couple characters die; they introduce fifteen more pointless characters that the writers can use as collateral damage; they move on; cliffhanger. The problem with this is that the characters are so thinly drawn and flatly performed that it's hard to care if they live or die. Typically, I have to have my wife remind me who these "main characters" are when they re-appear on my screen.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan, typically a reliable character actor, looks like he's going to overact in an effort to make up for the complete lack of pulse everywhere else in the show. Andrew Lincoln's Rick has been written so flimsily that its impossible to care or take him seriously: is he sane? Is he insane? Does he want to relinquish his leadership and be a pacifist? Or does he want to be a ruthless, guns-blazing zombie killer totalitarian? Does anybody care at this point?

This show is a piece of overrated trash, and it's enduring popularity baffles me, when there are SO many better shows on television. I'll continue to watch it because my wife watches it and it entertains me to hate-watch.

Not to mention, I'm glad Short-Round (Glen) is dead. His character sucked and was a waste of space for the past five seasons. His cop-out death halfway through last season was indicative of everything that is wrong with this show's writing staff. They're of the belief that shock tactics, lame cliffhangers, and an overabundance of characters makes up for actual storytelling, character development, and drama.

      F this show.

I liked it but man the violence was over the top on this one. Hopefully Negan lasts as long as The Governor. Everyone knew Glenn was gonna go, but Abraham? Didn't see that coming. I love the show but it's starting to wear thin for me. Wrap this thing up already.

Nope, westtncat, there are plenty of people that love the show.

I just despise it, and rather than just coming through with the one sentence, "this show sucks," I felt like I should at least explain why I hate the show.

I think my biggest gripe at this point is not the pointless nihilism or the boring stock characters or the lame writing choices, it's the complete lack of forward momentum.

"Breaking Bad" always had a ending point that you knew it was moving toward; when "Lost" was given its end date, the action began to MATTER, and it really started to sprint towards the finish (whether or not you liked the results of that one is a different story). "The Walking Dead" has just become a depressing. nihilistic slog. With no end in sight, it is beginning to approach misery porn. I have no problem with gratuitous violence or dwelling in misery in storytelling, but only if it's being used as means to move towards a resolution. Without that resolution, I begin to wonder why I should care.

                Does this make sense?

Also, I'll be nice: this show has one of the best pilots I've ever seen. (Thanks, Darabont. Come back to my TV).

Breaking Bad is the best show that has ever been on tv. Walking Dead wishes it was half as good. Yeah, those Darabont episodes were top notch.

No chance. There are years' worth of storylines left in the comics, and they plan to film it all. This thing could go on for twelve seasons.

"The Walking Dead" will go on as long as AMC wants (or needs) ratings, Downes.

"Game Of Thrones" has outlived its welcome, but at least it has an endgame in place.

Sidenote: has anybody watched "Westworld" on HBO yet? It's sort of a pastiche of different sci-fi ideas and stories, but so far its completely enthralling and it's beautiful to look at.

Westworld is based on an early '70s sci-fi movie Westworld starring Yul Brenner, Richard Benjamin, and James Brolin. I remember watching it as a kid and liking it. Gonna have to revisit it.

Negans character is great, though a little over tbe top. I can see a scenario where they lose some of the audience if Negan stays evil too long. Because as long as he is, Rick's guys will be pansies and we want Rick and the group to get back to where they were.

I love it. It has its own (minor) issues, but that's a show that'll give you something to think about. Third episode was big.
