    Olympics

The Olympics have been entertaining so far.

I've watched a bunch of different sports, some I really haven't seen too much of before. Have seen judo, table tennis, a ton of swimming, shooting, Big Cuz, and all kinds of other stuff.

Most entertaining sport I've seen is probably indoor volleyball. Least: road cycling.

I haven't watched any, nor do I plan to. I've never been able to get enthused about the Olympics.

I watch as much as I can. I love the competition and of course Americans winning Gold.

Handball is an interesting sport. Watched some of that.

        Women's weightlifting. Intense and strange.

Having multiple channels and different events you can flip to is good because you can get a taste of a bunch of different sports.

I disagree completely. I'm glued to the TV any time I catch a road race.

Interesting. I can't quite understand it. Most of the competitors seem to be in not to actually win but to sort of keep others from winning.

Actually I typed that and there was just a pretty entertaining finish at the end of the women's road race.

It's the other four hours that are a bit of a slog.

Also saw a pretty unbelievable boxing match late last night. Those guys absolutely mauled each other. It was like Rocky.

The women just finished a race in absolutely incredible fashion. The leader had a horrific crash with about 10 or 11 km to go; the American, Mara Abbott, who was behind the leader, then held what seemed like an insurmountable lead. Next thing you knew, three other riders had caught Abbott, and all three passed her with less than 500m to go in the race. She went from gold to fourth in the blink of an eye.

Your observation is correct though. Countries or, as in the Tour De France, sponsored teams, usually only have one (if they're lucky) member who has a legitimate chance to compete for the title. The rest of the team is there more or less to provide support (by way of drafting, for example) to that rider. There are a lot of team tactics involved that essentially boost one person's chances of climbing the leaderboard.

Watching whitewater kayaking right now. This is cool stuff, too. I remember when this event was held on the upper section of the Ocoee back in '96.

I like volleyball but one thing I don't understand is why they celebrate when they don't score a point.

Reminds me of Rick Barry talking about free throws: guys give the shooter five when he misses, which is the weirdest thing ever. If you didn't have a scoreboard in the top corner of the screen in volleyball you'd never know who was winning. They seem ecstatic when they screw up.

Saw the video of the French gymnast who broke his leg on the vault. Absolutely disgusting. It reminded me of Tim Krumrie. That guys career is finished. You work so hard to get there and just like that you are done. I wish him nothing but the best.

I saw, this morning, that Michael Phelps won his 19th Gold Medal. As I've previously stated, I'm not a fan of the Olympics, but I appreciate dominance in most anything.

Hardly watched any of it. I just don't get into the Olympics much anymore at all. I only watched a little soccer and little of mens basketball,France and whoever they played. I probably would have watch the US mens team but was out doing other stuff when they played. It seems like everything I have heard is that will have a walkover in these games. Not much competition out there for this time around.

You missed an exciting race. Phelps won it with his turn. He swam the second leg and absolutely exploded off the wall and shot ahead of the French.
