I do not watch the NBA much less the WNBA, but I just had to comment. The league has lost money every single year of its existence (at least it had until maybe a year or so ago when i read an article about the league's finances). The NBA props it up financially. The level of basketball is, from what I've observed in highlights on ESPN, about like good boys HS (and that may be giving them.more credit than they deserve as I believe an all-state boys team would rout the best WNBA team). The women are good - but they're women. They aren't as athletically gifted as men are. The notion that the league 'owes' them anything is beyond laughable. They don't generate enough revenue on their own to pay the bills. To be fair and to pay them what they're 'owed' would be to ask for refunds from every player and coach.

From what I've read, the NBA subsidizes them.
Keeps them afloat.
Their reaction to Clark shows that the majority of them do not understand finance or economics.

Millions in losses each year from what I read.

It's just not a good product with the way the refs are out there like it's an event at the Roman Colliseum. They abuse their best player for reasons unknown. FWIW, Angel Reese has got to be the worst female basketball player I've ever seen.Comment

The story on ESPN and other outlets quoted multiple X posts that all said pretty much the same thing we have: your business loses money every single year and you want what is 'owed' to you? Completely tone deaf WNBA players. Avg WNBA salary is ~ $147k according to one source I read (144 players). Even if every player's salary was eliminated, the league would STILL lose money. What are they 'owed'? I'd guess, in any other situation, they're owed absolutely nothing, much less $147k.Comment

One of the comments suggested that the best WNBA players would be very competitive on a boys HS team. Is that true, though? The women are not without skills, for sure. But, pretty much every HS boys team has multiple players who can dunk, who presumably are faster, stronger, quicker than a WNBA player. Do the women shoot better, get rebounding position better, better fundamentally, etc. where they would be 'very competitive'? Not sure about that. IIRC, a few years ago the Women's national soccer team played against an all-star 15-YO boys team and got smoked. Wouldn't 17- and 18-YO HS BB players be better than 20-something YO WNBA players logically?Comment

The WBNA has been subsidized by the NBA for fifteen years, and they have never turned a profit. It's essentially make-a-wish league.
Caitlin Clark has given it eyes that it never would have had, otherwise, which is why they're all rocking those dumb t-shirts. These chicks should be lucky they're getting paid anything.👍 2Comment

Amen. BTW, I didn't know this either, but the WNBA started in 1996. So, the league has been subsidized for THIRTY years without making a profit. Other than a government boondoggle, what business would be allowed to lose money for 30 consecutive years before closing its doors? And, then have the employees of said business ******************** and moan about not getting paid enough? Hard to believe this is not some SNL skit, you know?
It's probably a solid write off, tooLast edited by KCKUKFan; 07-21-2025, 11:22 AM.👍 3Comment

It's not politically correct, but there's no money to be made in professional women's sports. The WNBA has been an utter failure, and it's only still going as virtue signaling by Adam Silver and his band of goons. The NBA has never seen a "social issue" that they're not willing to exploit, clearly. Same goes for gender relations.

mentality society and quite frankly, I’m tired of it and have basically walked away from supporting said society👍 4Comment

Great post and the reason I quit watching the nba was all the social issues. Black nba players crying over equality while making millions, give me a break. This is the same thing. We live in such a victimhood

Its sort of like separating the art from the artist -- I've always been good at that.Comment
