    Wimbledon 2025

Can't believe the number of upsets in the first couple of rounds on the men's and women's side.

I think we're looking at a repeat of the French. But I believe Sinner is probably slightly better than Alcaraz on grass.

I used to be a very big tennis fan - and I played a lot of it as well. The last few years, I haven't really watched much of the pros. I usually cancel my streaming options that include ESPN right after basketball ends, so there's not really a good way to watch most of the bigger tournaments. I've kind of lost touch with it. And having Federer and Nadal gone has made it more generic. Same could be said for Serena on the women's side even though I was never a fan of her.

Lost interest for a long time then started playing again a few years ago. Really enjoy it now.

The bigger tournaments are very entertaining. Wimbledon has already witnessed a bunch of upsets and super close matches. I think Sinner wins it but wouldn't be surprised to see Alcaraz hoisting the trophy. His best is just a hair better than Sinner's but Sinner seems to be more consistently focused.

Sabalenka is and should be the prohibitive favorite on the women's side. With Coco bombing out along with Pegula, I just don't see anyone beating her. Would like to see Rybakina play well as she can challenge Aryna.

We enrolled my son in a local tennis camp last fall and have continued to do so three or four times, since. I never played and have maybe watched ten minutes, total, in my entire life, but he's taking an interest, so I will, too.

I can't stand Sabalenka. I can't believe any of the women players don't complain about a hindrance with her. She's clearly violating that rule every time she hits the ball. It's egregious and blatant. I call her The Shrieker. I can't watch her matches without muting and I always root against her.

Me, too. And, when she plays someone like Ostapenko who also shrieks on every shot, it's unwatchable. I don't know why the tour officials let her make that much noise on every shot. It has to be disconcerting to her opponent and, possibly, misleading if she shrieks loudly on a softly hit ball or vice versa. It does seem like her behavior is a rules violation. But, OTOH, it seems she's very well liked by the other players on the tour so they must not complain too much.

36 seeded players out and the 2nd round isn't done yet.

Seles started it. The women I think sometimes grunt/scream louder than the men. It's very annoying.

Navarro seems pretty dialed in so far.
Going forward, Christian Laettner volunteers to catch any dildos flung on a basketball court - or anywhere else.

At this point in the tournament, it appears it's still Sinner v. Alcaraz on the men's side and Sabalenka crushing someone on the women's side.

I'm very disappointed that Rybakina got thrashed earlier. When she's really on, she plays a beautiful game of tennis and doesn't shriek on every shot. For some reason, she's just not right here lately. Sprays a lot of what look like easy ground strokes and misses her serve too often. Swiatek will lose soon - she, too, has become a lot more inconsistent with her ground strokes and her 2nd serve is a huge liability. Don't see any of the other women beating Sabalenka unless she just has one of those days where everything is subpar and that's possible, of course.

Gotta feel for Dimitrov. He was cruising and had Sinner on the ropes.

5th straight GS tourney that he's gotten injured and had to retire. He's, what, in his 20s and getting injured frequently? That doesn't bode well for a long career. Joker is quickly approaching 40 and he's still an iron man (a lesser one, of course, but aren't we all when comparing age 22 to 38?).

Until I read the recap, I didn't realize Sinner had hurt his elbow early in the match. Not sure he can win it all unless he's 100%. Sabalenka in trouble today so far. Down a break late in the first set.

Ash, the announcers actually said grass is Sinner’s worst surface. Alcarez is two time defending champ. Would like Sinner to win but we shall see. Great tournament.

Thus far, I'm surprised at Iga's performance. She's been way less than dominant this year but has played well at Wimbledon on grass, her worst surface. Does she have enough game to beat Sabalenka on grass (assuming she gets to the finals against AS)? She'd have to play really, really well and Sabs would have to play C or C- or worse, imo. AS just hits the ball so much harder and typically pins her opponents, especially on grass, several feet behind the baseline where it's nearly impossible to hit a winner.

An injured Sinner handled the huge serving Shelton pretty easily today, which surprised me. Thought with Sinner < 100%, Shelton had a good chance of advancing, but no. Joker continues to defy Father Time, making ANOTHER GS semi. Wasn't ever my favorite player but you just have to give him props and tons of respect for how good he's been for such a long time.

Could be some star power in both finals. Can't wait.
