To all the golfers out there, sorry not sorry, hate to be a hater but I do envy you now.
For years I had it in my mind at some point I was going to play professional golf for a living. Talent was always there but the pressure and mental side of the game was always working against me, it truly is a mental game.
In the fall of 2016, the last time I played in a competitive golf tournament, I play my very best that day, -7 under 65 and took home a trophy. All those years of hard work and training mid 40's I finally said to hell with it, I didn't care no more, I just played to play and have fun, finally reached my full potential because mentally I did not care anymore, no pressure.
What I did not know is that the fall of 2016 would be my last tournament. March 17 I had a stroke. Luckily I was not affected physically but for the next months or so I struggled with nerve pain and tiredness, golf was not in the cards. I was waiting to have a surgery to repair a hole in my heart before I resumed playing again. Two weeks after the heart surgery, we welcomed another child.
With the arrival of a new child, I really put golf on hold and focused other things. With the surgery in place, I actually felt 110% better than ever, was on the verge of getting back into the swing of things in 20024. Problem is, had covid in November 23 and had another stroke. This time luckily still normal but something inside died, it hit my balance in my spine, still weak in my opinion.
Fast forward to today, been practicing putting and chipping, lob shots, punch shots, etc. the past 6 weeks, still haven't committed to full swings
Hopefully spring 2026 I can start playing again. When golf felt like a job I actually hated it, was totally burnt out. Now I just want to get back on the course enjoy the views and compete against the mother nature and just have fun, I miss it to be honest.Comment
