Minority Report was cool. I'm not trying to damn with faint praise, if anything it says a lot about Spielberg that his 9th or 10th best movie is also arguably a classic.

Catch Me If You Can is another one I really love that will be forever relegated to "middling Spielberg" status.

"Bridge Of Spies" and "Catch Me If You Can" were pretty fantastic, although I'm not sure if either are masterpieces.

And, Catatonic, "Catch Me If You Can" isn't "middling Spielberg." That would be piffle like "Always," "1941," "The Terminal," "Hook," "Amistad," "Tintin," "Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull," and "The Lost World." Boy, thinking about it, Spielberg has some really shitty movies under his belt.

          You didn't like Hook!?!

          Me either, it sucked.

In my world Kingdom of the Crystal Skull doesn't exist.

          What's wrong with Amistad?

"Hook" is one of those movies like "The Goonies" that everybody in my age range 30-35 LOVES because of 'member berries.

In reality, the movie is hideously awful. Like... embarrassingly bad for everybody involved.

                Ok.

I haven't seen it in probably 20 years but I remember thinking it was great.

How did Bale go from seething hatred of the Native Americans to love and respect with little more than some partnered killing and quiet observation?

The same way that Edward Norton in "American History X" went from avowed skinhead neo-Nazi to black-sympathizer because he was folding towels with a comic-relief African American in prison: lazy writing.

Maybe his pending retirement made him realize he hated long enough.
Maybe Rosalie's plight softened his heart.
Maybe he started paying attention to his Bible.
Maybe he finally saw enough death.

                        I don't know.

But I liked his character. Liked Bale in the role. Liked most of the characters. Loved the film.
                        But thats just me.

I also liked Amistad and Always. So sue me.

Watched Thor Ragnarok at work tonight. Insanely good movie and much better than I expected. The first two Thor's were ok but he was clearly one of the weaker characters in the MCU. This movie was a much needed makeover for the God of Thunder. There is a lot of spot on humor in this and that is what makes it so good. Sure the action is great and it's beautifully filmed, but the characters spend a lot of time making fun of themselves and that made it so enjoyable. Think both Guardians of the Galaxy but better. This movie does for Thor what The Winter Soldier did for Captain America. This is easily a Top 5 Marvel movie for me. Highly recommended.

I wouldn't say lazy writing at all, but to each his own. That movie was fantastic btw.

The movie was fine, but I never bought his "transformation." Just didn't feel earned.

If you look into that film's behind the scenes story, you'll see that Edward Norton felt the same way. He wanted the prison scenes to be more fleshed out but the director, Tony Kaye, refused to push for a bigger budget to film more scenes that were originally scripted. It caused a major fallout between the two, and to this day, Norton isn't proud of the finished product.
