We watched MOM and Dad( the movie that was filmed here is Louisville) with Nick Cage and Selma Blair..it was fun to see all the landmarks here in the city but the movie was as weird as they come

"Wind River" was good, but compared to Sheridan's screenplays for "Sicario" and "Hell Or High Water" it felt a little slight.

As a connoisseur of ridiculous Nic Cage performances, I really want to see Mom and Dad. So far I can't seem to find it playing anywhere, though.

I enjoyed it, but I agree that there wasn't enough meat on the bone. And though I actually think this is one of Renner's better roles, I can't quite figure out why Sheridan wouldn't have given the lead (or at least a lead) to a Native American - especially when you consider the fact that the entire film was his attempt at bringing light to the fact that NAs are overlooked/underrepresented.

Could've been some sort of meta technique, I suppose. Can't say Native Americans are underrepresented if you give the lead to a Native American? He took a similar message in Sicario so far that he literally wrote the female lead right out of the film.

It likely had to do with Renner being able to sell tickets.

I kind of liked the angle of the white game warden being invited into the exclusive Native-American world, but the movie would have worked just as well with a native playing that role. The only reason you watch that is for the visceral pleasure of his revenge, and as revenge movies go I thought it was solid.

Its available to stream for $5-6. Not showing in Louisville, Indy, Cincy or Nashville.
Extremism is so easy. You've got your position, and that's it. It doesn't take much thought. And when you go far enough to the right you meet the same idiots coming around from the left.

                All true.

I thought the scene when the father cries out and collapses into Renner's arms off-camera was pretty powerful. Good way to establish a complex relationship.

Thanks, I'll look for it on streaming. Kind of a shame it didn't even get a theatrical release in the city it was filmed in.

Off topic but I felt compared to share.

I attended a conference in college and there was a guest panel that presented on something like, "First Nation Perspectives on identity and Euro-American culture". Something like that. It was really interesting and I learned a great deal about how the presenters looked at the issues of the day. At a later time, representatives of the First Nation group were invited to perform. The dais was crowded with drum circle and dancers dressed in full ceremonial regalia. As the performance picked up steam some of the dancers moved down to the open area between the raised dais and the first row of seats and it wasn't long before several very earnest and well-meaning college students began dancing with them. More and more students began to join the fray until the area became dangerously crowded looking more and more like a happy mosh pit and the First Nation dancers retreated back to the dais to finish their performance in safety.

As this unfolded, I was sternly rebuked by my more serious fellows for pointing at the scene and shouting "Oh no! Not again..." It was an unintentionally hilarious moment of failed "reconciliation" that perfectly outlined one of their points.

Blade Runner 2049 is a boring mess.

I could understand why you'd say it was boring, but how was it a mess?

It looked amazing, it was well-acted, it was expertly paced, and I thought it worked better as a narrative than the original "Blade Runner."

Well, if you like watching Gossling walking as slow as possible for 2 hours, then I guess you could say it was great acting. Needed Ford to show up an hour earlier, imo.

I will agree the look was great and was faithful to the original in that aspect, but we will just agree to disagree on the pace. A snail is faster. To each their own though. I was really looking forward to it and I was sad I couldn't get to the theatre to see it, but now am glad I saved the $$.

I finally saw it last weekend. I LOVED it. I could watch it again right now and will probably get the Blue-Ray.

The Narrative was the opposite of a mess. The pace is slow and I can see how some would get board. I thought the pace was perfect, I wanted another hour of story.

I'll watch it again. Maybe I will grasp what you guys did after a second viewing.

I think part of it is personality driven with respect to what you like or enjoy. I think you need to really enjoy being in that world. Sort of soaking in it. I think you need to be able to enjoy looking at the beauty of cinematography for it's own sake. I think you need to like observing people's faces carefully to see what is going on. And you need to be in the mood to do all that.

I don't find fault with those who find either Blade Runner movie ponderous and boring.
