As I'm sure everyone knows, next week is going to bring the kind of weather most of us aren't used to. If anyone knows of elderly and/or handicapped people, especially those living alone, please check on them. Also, if possible, those of you who have outside pets make sure they have a warm place and plenty of fresh water. Some may not realize that pets need water in the winter as much as in the summer. Finally, last but not least, stay home as much as possible and if you must travel use extreme caution. Stay safe everyone.

Thanks, Matt. I used to love winter, but that was when someone else took care of things I knew little about, except the basic things like drip the indoor faucets and cover the outside ones. That all changed in 2021, when my husband died as a result of winter conditions/ power outages.
Either last year or the year before, it was the constant “celery crunch†sound of massive trees losing their crowns in an ice storm and the ensuing bills to remove or trim them and replace fences, roofs, and gutters. Now, it’s my least favorite season. I pray for everyone to get through this winter safely.Comment

All my life I've never been worried about what the weather was. But now I'm 81 and everything is different. Summer, I can deal with heat somewhat. But, this cold is a different issue and especially with snow or ice. We both are afraid of falling, and if we have to drive, we're worried about an accident or break down and being stranded. I'm on a walker which makes it worse.John 3:3

It's 5:40 here in Corbin. It's still dark so I can't tell how much snow is on the ground. The Weather Channel is saying we could get 8 in. or more before it's over plus it's going to be bitterly cold all week. Our elect. was off for about an hour and a half yesterday. I'm going to have to reschedule several appts. this week. We hate spending a large amt. of money for something we may never use, but we decided we're going to get an estimate on a Generac home generator. If the power goes out, we have a gas fireplace that provides a lot of heat. I also have a gas stove so I can cook some things.Comment

After being without power for almost two weeks a few years ago, I had a Generac installed in my home and my 90 yr old mom’s home. You can’t put a value on peace of mind. Expect to pay around 10k for one that will handle your whole home including the heat pump if you have one. You can go smaller if you are using gas furnace and appliances. Good luck.Comment

I had a generator. For us, it was that no emergency vehicles could make it to our house. Finally, Fire Department Special Operations Search and Rescue got here.Comment

We have about 2 inches of snow. Very pretty looking out back. Haven’t seen any cars going by. Hoping to get out later, but don’t need to. Plenty of food for us and the cats 🙂Comment

I'd say we've got between five and six inches here and it's still snowing lightly. Per TWC, 8 tonight, minus 5 tomorrow night and 13 Sunday night and then this is supposed to be over.Philippians 4:11-4:13Comment

I hear you, my friend. When I was in my late teens and early 20's, some of us guys would find a vacant lot, covered with several inches of snow, and play tackle football. We didn't have any equipment, but it didn't matter because the snow would cushion your fall. I'd go home soaked to the skin. I'd just take a hot bath and put on some dry clothes and I'd be good to go. Like you I hate snow and if the temperature falls below 70 I think it's uncomfortable.Philippians 4:11-4:13Comment
