When I was in high school, I worked at the derby as a fundraiser. I woke up at 4:30 am, got on a bus from Etown, and worked until about 7 pm in a loaned uniform and uncomfortable shoes. Needless to say, I'm fine if I never go back.
I appreciate the notoriety of the derby and what it means for our state, but I'm not much on horse racing or drinking for 12 hours straight anymore, and I haven't cared about social events like the derby or Keeneland since college, so it doesn't appeal to me anymore.
