    Sporting Events Bucket List

What sporting events, games, stadiums, etc have you witnessed outside of Kentucky home games? Any that you'd like to experience?

I've been to games at Freedom Hall, NCAA games at Yum and in Indy. I've seen two NFL games. One at Cincinnati one at Tennessee. I've been to one MLB game in Cincinnati.

The most intriguing event was a soccer game when I was in Germany. It was the most intense atmosphere I've been in. While there I also got to watch the German women's national team practice.

I would love to see football games at Ohio St, Michigan, Notre Dame, and Bama. I'd also like to see a basketball game at Duke.

I've seen two games at Cowboys stadium - inaugural year - November game against the 'skins, and second year December game against the Eagles. Saw the Cowboys play at Paul Brown stadium about 4 years ago. Amazing the difference between it and Cowboys Stadium with regard to concourses and food/beverage offerings. Paul Brown was akin to attending a college game, while Cowboys stadium had bars where hard liquor could be purchased and the food offerings showcased a wide variety - many appeared to be well thought out chef productions.

Would like to see a game at Lambeau and a game at Soldier Field.

Baseball - games at Wrigley field, Fenway Park, Dodger Stadium, Oakland Coliseum, Angel Park in Anaheim. Last remaining parks built in the 60s or earlier.

College football game at Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Clemson, Florida State, Notre Dame, Texas, Michigan............

Golf - The Masters, The Open, The US Open. I've been to at least one day of all the PGA and Senior PGA Championships in Louisville, as well as the Senior PGA Championship in French Lick a few years ago.

        Tennis - the Grand Slams.

College Baseball World Series in Omaha.

Extremism is so easy. You've got your position, and that's it. It doesn't take much thought. And when you go far enough to the right you meet the same idiots coming around from the left.

Been to a Final Four a couple times including when we won in 2012. Nothing like it and the sea of blue is always very evident.

Once Cal leaves and we go back to the Maui Invitational, I'd love to go out there for that event.

I was at the FF in 97, 98 & 15. It is amazing the amount of blue. The open practices, particularly the 2 in Indy were like a UK party.

You're right. We went to the open practice in Houston, and BBN really showed up. We didn't enjoy the game much, but my seats were in the same row as Jack Givens and 2 rows behind Cotton Nash.

I have been to the MLB All Star game. It was 1988 in Cincinnati.

I went to the 1982 SEC tournament in Lexington.

That's the only 'big" events I have been. I would like to go to any post season MLB game. Also would like to go to any NCAA tournament game especially the Final Four. It would be a bonus if UK was in it. Also would like to go to an Army/Navy football game. It looks to be quite an event with all the cadets attending the game.

Cathy, definitely get to A&M. It's unlike any other place I've been for any game. You'll love it.

I'm with Kevin: I'd love to see an Army/Navy game. I've heard that any game at Navy is a great time, and I'd also like to go there. I'd like to see a game at Washington, too. Clemson, Texas, Florida State and USC are on my list. The next line would have Michigan, Oregon, Oklahoma, Arizona State and Washington State. I've heard for 25 years now that Texas Tech is a terrific time, but I doubt I'll get there for a game unless I really crank it up later in life. And I'd love to see Kentucky play in more Florida bowl games, especially the Outback which is a great time.

I think it would be fun to see certain Olympic events, but I don't see it happening. My wife went to some once upon a time and enjoyed it.

I went to many MLB parks before the strike turned me off to it completely. I loved Wrigley and Camden Yards. Went to a World Series game and the atmosphere was electric, and much different than what I usually associate with baseball. Still, some of my fondest baseball memories are of old Louisville Redbirds games back in the 1980s when they were outdrawing some major league teams and putting over a million fans through the turnstiles in a year. Jim Fregosi had that team playing good baseball, some really good players came through on their way to the majors, and the night they had their millionth fan come through was a really fun time. That team brought a nice sort of pride to a city that hadn't had much for a while. That old stadium was ancient and grungy but it was a fun place to go see a game, and lots of people went. The new stadium is nice but doesn't have the same vibe and, unlike the old stadium back in the day, it doesn't feel like it's something the whole city comes out for.

I've not been much of an NFL fan since childhood but saw the Bengals and 49ers play in Cincy the year they met again in the Super Bowl and it was a good time. I've seen all SEC teams play, and all but 3 of them play at home, and been to several bowl games with (and without) them. College football games are my favorite. Some of those schools have really pleasant home crowds and game day experiences, especially Carolina, Georgia and Auburn, but the best of all (so far) was Texas A&M. Florida and Tennessee have impressive stadiums but weren't as enjoyable as those others. Some schools' fans pride themselves on being classy and some other schools have a greater percentage of fans who feel the opposite. Outside the SEC, I've seen a few other teams at home, including Ohio State. OSU's stadium is huge, but old, with many seats having very poor views and sightlines. They pack it, though.

Seeing UK play in the SEC and NCAA tournaments is a much more exciting and fun experience than going to Rupp, IMO. I've had some nice times and trips going to see UK play tournament games. I enjoy seeing them on the road more than at Rupp, too. I've only seen 6 SEC schools play basketball at home; you can usually tell that basketball is clearly king, though some of the arenas are pretty nice, especially those at A&M and Arkansas. Auburn has a nice one also. Vanderbilt's is old but unusual and is a very differerent experience. I've seen a few other teams play at home and usually they draw pretty sparse crowds. One exception is Louisville; their fans get into the game but they spend as much time and voice complaining about officiating as they do cheering for their team. No where else have a seen a crowd as upset about refs as that one always is. I've been to a few NBA games but I don't find them enjoyable. They are played like scrimmages or playground games, the crowd is lame, and they blast really bad, loud music throughout it. I've been to one Kentucky state high school basketball championship tournament and it was a great time; I'd take that over an NBA game any day.

I'm not a big hockey fan but have enjoyed some NHL games. They draw pretty spirited crowds. Minor league and college hockey can be fun, too. It's a great event to take a little kid to see; they really follow the game, even at very young ages.

I've been to the Kentucky Derby a few times. That's probably more like Mardi Gras or a Junior League event than a sporting event, IMO.

                              Good choice!

When I played baseball in high school that was a goal of my best friend and I - once we were out of high school, we'd take a week and go to Tampa for Reds' spring training. At nearly 19, the goal and funding never met in the middle and real life caught up with us.

I'd still like to do that though, before I die.
