    Cincinnati Reds

Kicking off this thread since Spring training is in full gear and opening day is just around the corner. My observations and hopes so far.

    - Another year, another Hunter Greene Injury. I know he's "ace" material, but this routine of him only playing about half the season is disturbing. he knew this elbow thing was an issue at the end of last season and could have had it fixed then. Now they are stuck with him missing 14-16 weeks. Just ridiculous. Last year he took way longer than he should have to recover from the "groin" issue he had. I'm at the point of thinking he just wants his paycheck and only wants to put in half the work to get it.

    - I like the addition of Suarez, but he's a bit like Adam Dunn was at the plate, either a homer or nothing, he had 49 homers last year but only hit .229 but his long ball threat, especially in GABC will have pitchers taking a cautious approach with him. He probably K's more than Elly.

    - Hope S
al Stewart can compete for Rookie of the year. Love that kids game.

    - Hope Elly can cut down on the errors. I've always thought he would be a better Center Fielder than Shortstop. He is just so tall and lanky, he has a long way to go to get down on grounders. He could cover a crazy amount of ground out in the OF. Hope he also becomes the 30+ HR threat he can be if his discipline at the plate improves.

    - Matt McClain seems to be having a heck of a spring so far. hope that carries over to the regular season.

-With Greene out, it looks like two rotation spots are up for grabs now. It's looking like Lowder has one locked up. Battle for number 5 will come down to Burns and Williamson. Only bothersome aspect to those last two spots is that they are going to guys who haven't pitched a full season worth of innings. I hope they get spot rests throughout to extend their shelf life so to speak.

    Can't wait till Opening Day!

The known injury from fall not getting fixed until March in a starting pitcher is not a Hunter Greene thing. It’s a Reds thing. Happens every year with a projected starter. Has angered me for a long time.

Off the top of my head I’m pretty sure Sonny Gray and Aaron Harang would be other examples.
