    Football Question # 16.

First and 20 at team A's 20 yardline. A1's legal forward pass is intercepted by B2 at team A's 45 yardline. B2 is tackled inbounds at team A's 10 yardline. While A1's pass was in the air, B3 was flagged for defensive pass interference at team A's 40 yardline. Team A accepts the penalty.

    A. It will be team A's ball, first and five at its own 35 yardline.
    B. It will be team A's ball, first and 10 at its own 35 yardline.
    C. It will be team A's ball, first and 10 at its own 40 yardline.
    D. The clock starts on the ready.
    E. The clock starts on the snap.

B and E too. It seems that when the clock starts and stops are a lot different than they used to be. Maybe LH can go over some of this after this question. I know used to that the clock always stopped when a ball carrier went out of bounds. Now it almost always starts back up when that happens. Also it seems to starts most of time after a penalty?

              B. E. for college. I bet for HS the clock starts at the ready.

              In the NFL it's C and E.

The correct answer to question # 16

                is B & D for College, and A & D for HS.

RULE 3; Periods, Time Factors and Substitutions.

SECTION 3. Timeouts: Starting and Stopping the Clock.
                e. Starts on the Referee’s Signal. For each of the following reasons, the game clock is stopped on an official’s signal. If the next play begins with a snap, the game clock will start on the referee’s signal:
                1. Team A is awarded a first down, either through play or by penalty.

RULE 7; Snapping and Passing the Ball.

                SECTION 3. Forward Pass.

                Illegal Contact and Pass Interference
                ARTICLE 8. a.
During a down in which a legal forward pass crosses the neutral zone, illegal contact by Team A and Team B players is prohibited from the time the ball is snapped until it is touched by any player or an official.

                c. Defensive pass interference is contact beyond the neutral zone by a Team B player whose intent to impede an eligible opponent is obvious and it could prevent the opponent the opportunity of receiving a catchable forward
pass. When in question, a legal forward pass is catchable. Defensive pass
interference occurs only after a legal forward pass is thrown.

PENALTY—Team A’s ball at the spot of the foul, first down, if the foul
occurs fewer than 15 yards beyond the previous spot. If the foul
occurs 15 or more yards beyond the previous spot, Team A’s
ball, first down, 15 yards from the previous spot [S33].
