    Football Question # 9

Fourth and ten at team K's 20 yardline. K1's punt is in flight and R2 is in position to catch the kick at team K's 45 yardline. K3 is close to R2 but does not make contact. R2 must step around K3 to make the catch. R2 is downed at team K's 43 yardline.

    A. No problem.
    B. Kick-catching interference only if R2 gave a valid fair catch signal.
    C. Kick-catch interference whether or not R2 gave a valid fair catch signal.
    D. After the penalty is enforced, team R will have the option to free kick.

I thought you had to give them a chance to catch the ball, therefore, C would be my answer.

I take it as R2 being set to catch ball & K3 was staying out of his way but at the last second R2 moved because he had misjudged the ball or was deliberately decoying K3. I mean how is K3 supposed to know R2 is in the wrong place? Net, A.

Also, R2 doesn't have to step around K3. He can choose not to.

C and I think possibly D meaning they will replay 4th down from K's 10.

The correct answer to question # 9,

is B for College and C & D for HS.

                RULE 6; Kicks.

SECTION 4. Opportunity To Catch a Kick.
                Interference With Opportunity.

kick or a scrimmage kick that is beyond the neutral zone, must be given an
unimpeded opportunity to catch the kick (A.R. 6-3-1-III, A.R. 6-4-1-V, VI and
                IX).
                b. It is an interference foul if, before the receiver touches the ball, a Team
