Are there any rules from defunct football leagues or the CFL that you think are preferable to NCAA and NFL rules?
One I'd advocate is use of the Dicker-rod, from the WFL, instead of chains:
Seems to me that the Dicker-rod is more accurate and fair. Plus, you'd only need one official to operate it, instead of three for the chains.
I like the NCAA rule of one foot in bounds on pass receptions better than the NFL two feet rule.
Years ago, ESPN used to show Canadian football games, and I think there was some rule I won't explain correctly where missed field goals, or even also made field goals, could result in a point for the other team if the other team managed to catch the field goal attempt in the end zone. If that's actually the rule, that could make long distance attempts a completely different proposition in a close game. I don't know if I'd favor that or not; it would be interesting, though.
