Cheap shots in the end zone

Why do players not get flagged for taking shots at players after they've crossed the goal line similar to how they would get flagged if they did that on the sideline? The guy who laid into (and subsequently bounced off of) Conrad after he was 3 steps into the end zone should have been flagged if they applied the same rule as they do on the sidelines. Seems like this happens an awful lot all over football, I'm wondering why there isn't a rule or if there is one, why it's never enforced?

Well in that game the rules didn't apply to UM anyway... At least holding, blocks in the back, and pass interference didn't.

Good point. I was thinking the exact same thing amd not just during that game. I have wondered that for YEARS now. I just don't understand it.

I watched the play again when Conrad scored, and saw nothing wrong with the hit. The defensive player was coming hard at him and backed off some before the hit. No flag there. I will call my NCAA contact and let everyone know what he says'

OK here's the Official explanation. The rules are the same in the endzone as on the sideline for late hits. Some late sideline hits are not penalized if the defense has already committed to the hit when the ball goes OOB, or if it was incidental and the defense tries to back off. This is what happened on the hit on Conrad. My contact had reviewed that play and stated no flag was necessary on the play. Also, if the defensive player had tackled Conrad and played through him, a flag would have been thrown. Great question and I hope my answer is satisfactory.

Your answer is satisfactory kind sir. I think it was the defenders intent to play through Conrad but brick walls are tough to play through.

I still don't understand why it's not called more. It happens frequently, and has for years and is seldom called.

I certainly don't disagree with you. For some reason the officials let contact go after a TD that would flag on the sideline.
