    Football Question # 1.

B1 intercepts a pass at his own three yardline. His momentum takes him into his own endzone, where he fumbles. B2 and A3 simultaneously recover the loose ball, which never leaves the endzone.

    A. Team A scores a safety.
    B. Team A scores a touchdown.
    C. Touchback: team B will get the ball at its own 20 yardline.
    D. The momentum exception applies: team B will get the ball at its own three yardline.

I say C--as the interception is returnable--his momentum takes him into the endzone---at that point he has to decide whether to down it for a touchback or bring it out and try his luck--so the ball is still live. Before he does either he fumbles. Then in the unlikely event its ruled simultaneous recovery by a player from each team it would go to the team that last had possession --ie the player who intercepted, not the offensive team who started the play with the ball. Just the way I see it. Realistically the officials would almost always make a ruling which player recovered it 1st and in this age they'd review it for 15 minutes to confirm or overturn. Then they rule its Florida's ball and take that UK! Just kidding Lighthouse.

The correct answer to question # 1,

            is D for all levels.

RULE 7; Snapping and Passing the Ball.

SECTION 2. Backward Pass and Fumble.
            Caught or Recovered

ARTICLE 2. a. When a backward pass or fumble is caught or recovered by any inbounds player, the ball continues in play.
            Exceptions:
            b.
When a backward pass or fumble is caught or recovered simultaneously by opposing players, the ball becomes dead and belongs to the team last in possession (Exception: Rule 7-2-2-a Exceptions)

            RULE 8 Scoring.

            SECTION 5. Safety.
            Exception:
            It is not a safety if a player between his five-yard line and his goal line: (a) intercepts a pass or fumble; or recovers an opponent’s fumble or backward pass; or catches or recovers a kick; and (b) his original momentum carries him into his own end zone;

Rule book had to have been penned by lawyers. I still read this to indicate it would be answer C. That's why I just watch. Thanks Lighthouse. I'll prolly be wrong next week too.

Edit: OK now I think I've got it.
