Louisville ends UK’s baseball season two wins short of College World Series

    LOUISVILLE
Brendan McKay was as good as advertised, Drew Ellis hit two more home runs, and Louisville defeated Kentucky 6-2 to sweep the NCAA super regional and end the Wildcats’ dream season two victories short of the College World Series.
McKay — Baseball America’s national player of the year — didn’t allow a run until the fifth and lasted 6 2/3 innings. The junior left-hander gave up eight hits, two runs and recorded nine strikeouts while walking no one in what is likely to be his final appearance at Jim Patterson Stadium.

Gotta hand it to UL. They have been rolling for a few years now. Mangione is righting the ship though. It's gonna take some time.

Time is right. UL proved to be the more mature team. UK had a season to build on and I'm sure learned a lot from their Super Regional experience. I didn't think McKay was at his best today, but the Cats sure helped him a bunch by again, swinging at bad pitches. Experience will correct that.

It was a good season. Hopefully Magione can build on this. They just need a little better player to compete at the top level. You could tell from the start UL had more talent than UK and it was going to take a lot of breaks and a couple of tremendous pitching efforts for UK to win that series.

I'm not sure from a talent level that UL was that much better than UK. But the most obvious difference to me was the experience and confidence level.

McKay--pitcher who ended our season went 4th overall and the 1st college player taken in the MLB draft last night. Obviously no shame in losing to him. Just too bad he is a Card.

He was picked as a first baseman, not a pitcher. That may come later.
