BATON ROUGE, La. – The Kentucky Softball team dropped game three of the series 8-2 to No. 4 LSU on Sunday afternoon as the Tigers completed a three-game sweep of No. 23 Kentucky to close out the second weekend of Southeastern Conference action.
It was a tight contest for a majority of the game, with LSU leading 4-1 in the sixth inning before the Tigers hit back-to-back home runs to put up a four spot in the frame and give themselves an 8-1 lead. Julie Kelley started the game for Kentucky and went 3.0 innings allowing two earned runs on just two hits, but it was defensive errors that let down the Wildcats as UK had two in the game that directly led to LSU runs.
Kentucky with the loss falls to 17-10 on the year and is now an even .500 in SEC play with a 3-3 league record. LSU is 27-1 with Sunday’s win and a perfect 3-0 in SEC action.
Kentucky will play at home Tuesday against the Dayton Flyers at John Cropp Stadium in Lexington at 6 p.m. ET.
