He's a stick boy. At 7'3" and 205 lbs., he has a lot of filling out to do.

Well he probably does, but at 16 I had a lot of filling out to do also.

This is a non story to me. If the kid can play he will get recruited but we will never see another Shagari (recruited for height not talent) while Cal is here.

By that logic we should just delete the recruiting thread.

I'm interested in any 7'3", 16 year old kid. If he can walk and chew gum at that age, he could develop into a basketball player. I bet Cal at least knows about him.

Delete the entire thing because I don't understand why a 7'3 kid gets hyped up if he can't play? I know you can't teach height, but you can't teach athleticism, motor, drive, or a work ethic. I would rather recruit players who can come in and contribute, who are athletic, and who have that motor that makes them never stop. I hope the kid develops and gets a scholarship somewhere, but with the turnover we have every year we don't have time to take a project and teach him how to play basketball. If he can contribute bring him in, but if he won't contribute until his third or fourth year I doubt Cal would even learn the kids name, much less recruit him.

He is 7'3 dunking on a bunch of 6'5 overweight white kids who play center. Sorry for not being impressed. I am sure Shagari was doing the same thing in high school.

What i am saying is, I dont know if the kid can play or not. Maybe he cant but hes only sixteen. I dont know if he is hyped or not it was just a video. What I am saying is that this is a recruiting thread to discuss recruits, possible recruits or players of interest. So to say if hes good we will recruit him if not its a non story really narrows down the recruiting discussion. I think that logic can apply to any player that Cal hasn't recruited. I agree we should recruit the best but I dont see where you get he is a project and have already said we dont have time for people like him. How do you know he wont be the next big deal? He is only 16 and already has an offer from W.V. Im not selling him just saying, you never know.

Isn't this in some regards what Cal is doing with Skal?

I understand your point. My point, and I apologize for not making this clear, is that it is a non story unless being recruited by Kentucky. To me it is a non story. You are correct that my logic can be applied to every player we didn't sign, but so can the logic of talking about a player because of his height. I bet the number of contributing players over 7'0 in college right now is about the same as contributing players under 6'0. We never have a thread of a 5'8 sophomore point guard. Why not a thread of the 6'7 wing who plays as a freshman in high school? I am sure I am jumping to conclusions and I apologize if I came off as rude, but the majority of players this tall never amount to much of anything.

Skal was a consensus top 3 player in high school. No one expected him to be a potential multi year project.

A player who is under sized or average sized would not have a thread because...why would they? I think you are framing this wrong. 7'3" at 16 years old in itself is a story to me. A 7'3" guy who was already in college would be a non story to me because everything about him is pretty much known by then. This kid is still a mystery and that is the fun part of talking about it. I dont feel you were being rude we just have a different way of viewing this.
