Sacha just tweeted this picture out and has since said his phone is locking up because of so many responding. I love seeing them get this rivalry going this early, they better be ready to bring it when they have to travel to the YUM center.
Got to see a little of the McDonald's game last night. My observations should be taken with a major grain of salt, not only because I didn't see the entire game but also because it's hard to get a read on much from these all-star showcases. Diallo tore up the all-star circuit last year and couldn't see the court in college. You never know.
Fox struggled shooting the ball, but there were movements in the game where you could see what a pure point guard he is. Think his early poor shooting got him out of the rhythm a little. On most nights he's going to outplay Lonzo Ball.
Bam put up good numbers and is just a man physically, but the best pure big in the game might have been Bolden. Looks like he can contribute right away. First thing you notice about him is his athleticism. Not a plodder at all and can get up and down. I'd heard a lot of Dakari comparisons, but that doesn't fit him. Way more athletic. Great hands. There will be a learning curve but he looks like he can fit in on a very good team and be a post anchor. Would love to have him.
Monk was Monk and is going to be great. I also thought Killeya-Jones looked like he belonged. Not sure he'll play an awful lot next year as Wenyen Gabriel is a similar player and I think he gets a lot of minutes, but he looks like a guy who has the tools to be a really interesting player down the road.
Josh Jackson was the best player in the game. Yikes. Unless he's some kind of nutjob or something he looks like he's going to make whoever he picks an immediate contender.
Did Lonzo Ball have the weirdest three-point shot you've ever seen, or what? Don't know how he ever makes one of those. He flips the ball straight out from his chest. Clanked every one of them.

Wayne Turner's shot thinks Lonzo Ball's shot is broken.
Also, the commentator with Rose and Williams couldn't have known less about the game or players he was watching. Example: near the beginning of the game, he said "Frank Jackson headlines a stellar Duke class," even though both Giles and Tatum are ranked higher than Jackson.
Watched the game end to end last night. Fox tried too hard most of the night. Monk was just out having fun. Bam is a MAN CHILD. If Kenny works with him he will be a beast by Christmas. If we land Bolden or Allen they will compete for starting playing time right off the bat. If we get Willis and Lee back with our other 2 bigs I would say we could use another scorer over another big. But we are not in line for any of the other scorers left out there. So lets land one of the big boys and start lacing them up for next year.
If Duke Lands Bolden I don't see us competing with them if Grayson, and Jefferson return, along with having a sophomore Kennard. Jackson sure looked like he will consistently stroke three's and Tatum and Giles are going to be tough. Bolden impressed me, he is athletic and should not be compared to Dakari at all. Of course it will depend on if a few of our guys return but I think whoever lands Bolden will be the pre-season #1.

Duke would be a 2015 type UK team if Allen returns (likely) and they get Bolden (likely).
Allen
Kennard
Matt Jones
Jeter
Thornton
Jefferson
Giles
Tatum
Frank Jackson
Bolden

Frank Jackson won't play much for Duke next year unless Thornton transfers and somebody is forced to play the point. That was fool's gold last night IMO. Jones and Kennard are going to get 90% of his minutes.
They undoubtedly will be the #1 team; they'll probably be #1 even if we get Bolden. But past that we'll have to see how it plays out. I thought we were going to get run by North Carolina in 2012 too.
I'm pretty confident there are going to be as many as 15 big-time freshmen in the college game next year. This past year there were like three or four.
So I'm confident that our freshmen are going to be okay. This is a legit class. If it turns out that way we badly need our returners to make significant improvements. Briscoe in particular is a guy who is going to have to be more than a bit and is going to have to make a kind of Darius Miller leap.
No way Grayson Allen leaves, that's just Duke's luck...he's at best a fringe first rounder and could even drop to late second round. Although he should be smart enough to realize that with next years class he likely wont gain any ground draft pick wise, he knows he will be on a championship caliber team.
Depending on how these recruits play out, and where the undecided ones go, there are going to be a decent amount of good teams next year.

Even if Briscoe stays and makes considerable improvements, I'm afraid we're still going to be a piece or two short. Like it or not, outside shooting, as is usually the case for us, may very well be an issue. Willis will be our only reliable deep threat, while Monk will more than likely be streaky, at best.
Meanwhile, Duke put together an absolute juggernaut, and with the luck of a thousand spoiled kids on their side, they'll probably get out there and complete an undefeated run two short years after we failed to do so.
That's me being overly dramatic, of course. But it's awfully irritating that, despite all the talent we bring in year after year, we can never seem to be the single, large-looming Goliath in the field.

I'm not sure Kentucky has ever been that goliath with the exception of last year.
The other Cal years we were "too young." In the Pitino years there was always somebody else. Usually somebody within our own conference: Arkansas. In '96 we were supposed to be unbeatable...and then promptly went out and lost to UMASS, who was the #1 team all year. In 2012 North Carolina had all the experience and just as much talent.
There are very rarely those goliaths in a sport that is controlled and ruled by parity.
