A sudden Mr. Basketball decommitment hands Mark Pope the ultimate Kentucky legacy opp

Mark Pope is still aggressively searching for the first official commitment of his 2026 recruiting class. The perfect in-state prospect has fallen right into his lap, if he can make it happen.

The reigning Kentucky Mr. Basketball. Jake Feldhaus asked for his release from his national letter of intent with Belmont, according to NextUpRecruits. After losing in the 11th region tournament, the senior finished his season averaging 20.7 points and 13 rebounds per game.

Wonder what Pope’s level of interest really is. Maybe he’s already begged him and that’s the reason he wants out of his LOI. Or maybe Pope feels he’d rather fill up from the portal than bring in a Belmont caliber recruit. Wonder who else was after him before his original commitment?

I would love for him to be on the team, but I don't suspect he'd likely contribute much. And being a legacy from KY, there will be people constantly saying he should get more minutes.

He could be another Noah or he could be better. He sure has the bloodlines.
