Take the recruit who wants UK, or wait for the recruit UK wants?

An interesting problem was discussed on KSR this morning. Kobi Simmons is apparently all in on UK and ready to commit; problem is, Cal might want De'Aaron Fox more than Simmons. Do you take the player who's ready to commit, or do you hold out for the possibility of getting the more attractive option?

I'm sure if Cal didn't think he had a really good shot at getting Fox or whoever he wants he would go ahead and take the commitment. I'm sure Cal is as good as anyone at reading whether a kid is really interested and if he has a good chance at landing him.

after the spring debacle in recruiting I am not sure what Cal would/will do. He was a Murray non-commitment away from it being a complete disaster in recruiting.

Unless he thinks Fox is WAY better than Simmons, I say you tell Fox that Cal is going to take Kobi's commitment and give him a chance to sign on. If not, then see you later.

Since they just brought Simmons in it's hard for me to believe they wouldn't accept a commitment from him. If you don't want him to commit, don't bring him to campus.

As for the individual players I wouldn't know. Haven't seen either play. But there are still as many as ten transcendent players in this class; if you put Simmons (assuming he commits, and I think he will) with one of those guys, Kentucky will be a title contender.

I think it is a slippery slope when you are passing on top talent, but I trust Cal in his decision. It's a tough game and you can easily get burned, which I'm sure Cal has in the past. I know Cal wants Fox, but if he waits till the spring to decide and Cal passes on a few kids before then, that's when you can get in trouble.

But if it was me, I take Simmons right now.

De'Aaron Fox just announced that he will attend BBM. KSR claims (without citation) that UK leads for Fox's services.

It's still a pipe dream at this point, but a Fox/Giles/Akins/Monk/Killeya-Jones class would be the best class in program history (on paper). One of the best in the history of the game.

Duke's going to get the same kind of class though. Wacky talent this year.

I saw that UK and Duke will be projected 1 and 2 in recruiting for 2016. It nearly happened last season but its going happen very soon. a UK/Duke national final. It almost seems inevitbale at some point.

                      Heard that one before....

I agree it's great news, but after last season and how we didn't land hardly any recruit that we were "leading for" it's hard to pass up on a talent like Simmons. I just hope Cal plays it cool, which we know he will, and hold Simmons off without scaring him off to another team, until Fox announces.

It is a pipe dream Will, but landing Giles, Fox, Akins, and Monk would be crazy, Giles gonna be hard to tear away from Tatum and Duke.
