OK, I readily admit I haven't kept up with recruiting. I know we had the #1 class until a few days ago and we may have again, but at this point we have only 3-4 players returning (one being EJ Floreal) and I think only 3 guys committed. Thats not even enough to have a decent practice. As I see it, Cal needs at least 5 guys and 2-3 need to be very high quality. Am I wrong? Is this likely to happen? And....is it time to panic?

Hopefully Poythrees, Ulis, Lee, Hawkins, Willis, Skal, Briscoe, and Matthews. That's 8 guys to play a 8 man rotation. Only problem is the interior depth but Alex can play PF with Lee off the bench. May not be a great 8 but at least we have 3 guys to handle the ball and hopefully Willis can pick up on the scoring end with his 3 point shot. -
No. Still some guys out there.
Even if we get one or two of these players though, a lot of things have to go right. Very young, unproven team. Regardless of what happens in these next few weeks in recruiting, this is going to be a season that tests a lot of fans' patience. That's the trade-off that's made when you lose 7 players to the draft.
Cal seems to've built an every-two-years model. A very strong year followed by a season where things get a little hinky. We'll have some big-time talent on this upcoming team like always, but we're going to have to play some very young players major minutes. The crazzeds of the world are going to consistently freak.Comment

And also, it's important to pay attention to the date and to how late some of Kentucky's players have historically come on-board.
Wall. Patterson. Jones. Noel. The twins. Randle. It's common that we get to late April and are in these same situations.
Doesn't mean that we're going to get any of these guys, but it's not that unusual.Comment

Reality, I don't expect us to have 10 McDonald's All Americans on the squad year in and year out all lobbying for minutes. Not every player coming out of high school is wanting to platoon and share minutes.Comment

I am honestly fine with that.....as long as they are at least a tournament team. If Cal can land some of the players next year he is going after it could be another magical year, but I just don't ever see us landing the talent we did this past year, and having that many kids come back. That was something special and doubtful will ever happen again.Comment

If we end up just adding let's say Mulder and Murray, then we'll still be a good team, I'm just not sure we could be a great team. We'd be smaller, well compared to what we have been the last few years. I would just feel much better if we could add one more impact guy, rather that be Newman, Brown, or Diallo.
The interesting thing is that if someone came to me today and said I could have 2 of the 3 I would take Brown and Diallo, and not Newman. I just feel the size of Brown would help us more on both ends of the floor. I'm sure just as many would rather have Newman though.Last edited by BBNalldayeveryday; 04-22-2015, 09:59 AM.Comment

No panic here. Cal is on the move and he's selling Kentucky and NBA potential. If the remaining players don't buy in, then we don't want them anyway.John 3:3

I would actually be okay with a smaller team. We had a smaller team in 2012. A long athletic C with Davis and Jones playing PF. I would be ok with a 3 man rotation down low of Skal, Poythress and Lee. If we get Murray, Moulder, or both we will have a nice rotation at 1,2, and 3 of Ulis, Hawkins, Briscoe, Matthews, Murray, and Moulder.Comment

I still think Willis will make the biggest improvement over the summer. He as of right now has the best potential on offense besides Poythress and Skal and you can teach defense if the player is willing to put in the effort. Willis last year no matter how much effort he put in was not going to see the floor. I will bet we see a much improved Willis on both ends next year. Just have that feeling. So we have Skal, Poythress, Lee and Willis as our bigs. Then if we do add 1 or 2 more wing/guards we should be OK. Yes I would take another big but not sure we have to have one to play great next year. Heck look at Notre Dame all they had is one big. They did fine.Proverbs 25:24Comment

Seems like most people are ABSOLUTELY FREAKIN OUT because we don't have 10 one and done's beating down the door to play for us next year. For me, I am actually VERY EXCITED about the opportunities that Willis and Hawkins will get next season. How about we let our own get some time and see what they can do??????????????? Did the Wisconsin team that just beat our 10 McDonald's All Americans have 10 NBA guys on there roster?????? Was Farmer, Feldhaus, Pelphrey, Sheppard, Padgett, Spark, Epps, and a complete long list of other UK legends all world NBA talent??? Don't forget where we come from folks!!!!!!!! Of course you have to have a few game changers on the roster but must also have valuable role players that play wear that jersey with everything they have.
I am going to say this and I hope I get some negative comments. We need interior depth, we already have a combo pg/sg in Hawkins and a sg/sf in Willis.
Now fire away because I am ready to push this thread into the 30 page mark real quick!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!👍 1Comment

Since when did our fan base become a bunch of spoiled brats that we have to have 10 McDonald's All Americans to field a team????????????Comment

It's very odd that you see a guy who doesn't play at all come in and get significant time on a good, championship-level team.
Generally what will happen is that there's a year where the team struggles, and then that guy is a major player on a contending team the following year.
Since I don't know Derek Willis personally I would much rather Kentucky land one of these high-profile recruits and let Willis have to fight. If I were related to him or had a personal stake in whether or not he played, I'd be hoping for Kentucky to stand pat.
The difference between Kentucky and Wisconsin is that Wisconsin was driven in the tournament by a former 5-star, top 15 player in Sam Dekker. He averaged double figures as a freshman.
Kaminsky is a similar player to Willis, but Kaminsky's seven feet tall. Much more common for guys like that to come along slowly.Comment
