Watched Anthony Wales tonight at The King of the Bluegrass tournament, and he is the real deal. 6' and can do it all. Scored with ease from 3 as well as driving to the basket. Very good shooter and an excellent ball handler. Deceptively fast. Would love to see him in Blue.

Johnson is a phenom. Overheard a couple of Trinity teachers who attend the games talking about him recently and they said they have no idea what he's going to do w/r/t college. After he de-committed from Louisville he has been very quiet. These people told me he's an extremely shy, reserved kid. But he can really play.
Trinity as a team is just a juggernaut. So much size all across the board. Really hard to deal with. I'm not in love with how they go about building their teams, but for Kentucky high school basketball they are stacked.
Also really liked Cooper High the other night. Love their offense. Five out all the time and drive, relentlessly. If the lay-up isn't there, kick to the corners and fire it. That's the hardest style of basketball to defend.Comment

I will be back at the KOB on Friday, would love to meet up with some of you who might attend. I usually sit about center court, top row behind the table. And because there are games in both gyms, I will be on the move to watch officials in both gyms.John 3:3

But their fans were screaming at the officials when they were up almost 25. I get intensity but that was a bit too much.
The Fitzgerald kid for Pulaski (who I think is going to Samford) is good, but he's kind of a one-man team. I played against his uncle, who's on their coaching staff. He went on to play at EKU. Tremendous player in middle and high school. He used to factor into my nightmares.
The Butt kid Pulaski has wasn't right for some reason. Limped all through that game. I watched a game they played last year that he just flat dominated. He's going to the University of the Cumberlands and will be a very good NAIA player.Comment

Went back last night.
The Fern Creek/West Linn game was crazy. Fern Creek charged back from constant deficits to take a one-point lead late. There was an atrocious out of bounds call on West Linn at the end of the game; if not for that call, they would've gotten the ball with about 1 second beneath their basket. But the official gave it to Fern Creek, which ended the game. West Linn has a huge kid who's signed to play football at Oregon St. who is an excellent player.
The Wales kid for Fern Creek didn't do much after the first half, but the talent level was high in that game. (He did hit a crucial shot late. However, his shooting form on the whole is poor. I've seen him twice and I'm not sure I see a D1 player.)
Covington Catholic beat Ballard with ease, Cooper crushed Fairdale, and Trinity struggled but beat Lexington Christian.
I really think Cooper can beat Trinity. Adam Kunkel, the guard from Cooper, is arguably the best player in that tournament. He's going to Belmont and he's a total freak. Just rock solid. That will be a war and a great game.
Fern Creek and Covington Catholic will also be an excellent game. Covington Catholic has a 7'1" kid.
Four very good teams, with an added bonus: four Kentucky schools made it through.Comment

Will, will you be there tonight? I will be switching between gyms, but in the big gym, I try to get top row mid ct table side. Should be some excellent games in both gyms tonight.John 3:3

Unfortunately not. I was lucky to get to the two nights I was able to make. Thankfully my wife loves Christmas and loves shopping, so the boy and I were able to have two guys' nights. I think I like high school basketball a tad better than he does.Comment

I sure wish you could make it. Seems like if I'm ever going to meet you it will be at Fairdale.John 3:3

I got another look at Wales tonight, and he is a very good player on both ends. Wasn't as consistent tonight compared to his last game but still is able to jump and shoot over taller players, and shot very well. On defense, he shut down Covington Catholic's shooting guard. Still think he's D1 material.
Trinty is the team to beat in Kentucky. They were 19 for 29 from 3pt line tonight. That's almost 66%. Johnson and Scrubb were dominating, but the others weren't bad either, Johnson is a Junior and both are going to make some college great shooting guards.Last edited by Lighthouse; 12-23-2017, 07:44 PM.John 3:3

Cal wont recruit Johnson because he is not a 4 star or 5 star and doesnt have a known name. Wonder if the kid will play AAU ball. Then maybe he will get a look.Comment

The trouble with recruiting Johnson is that he was a Louisville commit. Kentucky has definitely been interested after he opened up his recruitment. I've heard he's a very shy kid who doesn't really like attention, so it's hard to see him at a place like UK. But it's not true that Cal isn't recruiting him.
Johnson plays for the Louisville Magic on the AAU circuit. He's a four-star, top 100 player.Comment
