    Prepare to be pleasantly surprised.

Yep. I'm expecting a rough season. No veteran leadership, too many missing pieces, and too much responsibility heaped on the shoulders of guys (namely Green) who probably aren't ready to lead a team to a championship.

We desperately needed Bamba as the phenom cleanup man.

Not being snarky here, just a genuine question: why are you so high on this team?

This sucks, wasn't expecting this let down today. I. Humphies has one big game in the NCAA now he's gone, wonder if he's regretting leaving now knowing he would more than likely be the starting Center next year?

Anyways, small ball it is and hope next year can somehow get it together before we reboot again in 2018....

Furthermore, Calipari urged Bam to stay in the draft now reports are coming out he's very late first round possibe early second round, not a great showing for him in the pre draft.......

I'm high on the team, too. They'll take plenty of lumps and they'll be frustrating, but even without Bamba there's a LOT of talent. And it seems like they're kids, like Green, who want to improve and play hard.

I think Gabriel and Killeya-Jones will be pleasantly surprising in their development, as well.

Sucks losing Bamba, though. Puts a real damper on the day. Unless, of course, Diallo makes a certain decision to level the playing field.

I've said this before, but I think the best thing about the 2017-18 team is that most of them will still be here for the 2018-19 team. Other than Knox, unless I am really missing something, I do not know who else could go. We should be a real force in 2 years.

Another in the the file of you never know what they are thinking. But really you should on this one. Shaka was his U18 coach last year. They hit it off and most likely no on else was all that seriously considered. He played it out for what it was worth to him in attention. Cal gets the U18 team soon. I forget what year? Maybe he can get all of them he wants then. We'll see. Also I said in another thread that next year will be a whole like 2013. If they stay away from a major injury they will probably slip into the NCAA's. Just expect a lot of losses and a very low seed in the NCAA's.

I don't understand some of the thinking on this board. I think we will be really good come March and we will make some noise. Maybe a few bumps in the SEC but again, we will be the favorite to win the league and we will do that. Who else can win the SEC? Auburn? Ole Miss? Lol. We'll be fine with our #1 recruiting class people. Get Johnson or Diallo and we'll be as strong as they come.

I just don't think the quality of player that he landed in this class is what we usually see.

People say "#1 recruiting class" all the time, but every recruiting class is not the same. Some classes have way more talent. This one is uneven to start with, and then you bring in the fact that we lost virtually everybody who played a key role from last year's team.

This isn't to say that we won't have talent. We will. But all you need to do to get a feel for what Kentucky may be staring at is watch Alabama's Collin Sexton go up against Quade Green in these head-to-head match-ups. Alabama came out with the better player there. Same with Bamba and Richards.

I like all the guys we got. I really like guys like Vanderbilt and Washington and Knox: three potential all-SEC players for sure. But I think Cal had to fall back on second picks in this class with some of these guys, and that plus our youth is going to make it a slog at times next season.

Florida, maybe. Texas A&M returns a lottery pick and might be ready to make strides, too. And as Kevin mentioned below, Alabama was a team on the cusp last season, and they just added the best PG in the class and another solid player in John Petty.

I hope all you optimistic folks are right, but as of today I'm just not seeing it.

                          Particularly at guard.

Quade Green is going to struggle.

IIRC, Alabama got one of the top point guards in this class. They were very close last year and that may put them over the top. Also the coaching in the SEC has improved quite a bit in the last couple of years. There are actually some good young coaches in the league now. It will be very difficult to win the league next year with a team as young as this one will be.

I'll reserve my feelings on what we're hearing about SKJ's improvement. We heard the same thing about Humphries.

UK is not for everyone..maybe he wants to be the star at Texas....a team that was 11-22 last season

we still have 5 5 star players coming on for next season
