Humphries not only gets the ball raked away a ton, he also does that power dribble after the catch, whkch promptly gets stolen. This wasn't the opponent for Humphries to get going. Same can be sais for Willis. We are gonna need those guys in the physical games.

Dominique Hawkins needs to be added to the Good list. He's your stereotypical kid who doesn't always show up in the stat line but always helps your team. Sacha missed two free throws last night, and Dominique was there with the rebound and put back.

Agreed. Played really hard and well when he was in there.

Thanks will for your GBU analysis after each game keep them coming I look forward to them...
Right on the money about all of it. I will add maybe Willis just wasn't engaged...I know, I know, its season time but all players have a bad game/s.
I do know even for the minute that we put Wynyard in for me its a waste of time and I can't explain why I'm so dug in on him but...

Willis seemed to fade away after he lost the ball when it appeared he would have an easy dunk. They really have not set up any plays for him this year to take advantage of his outside jumper.

I really like how smooth Fox plays but he shoots like college Rondo. His stroke does not look bad and is money on the free throw line. Not sure if he is lacking confidence as it doesn't seem like he is 100% committed to outside jumper or if its mechanics.

Briscoe has been impressive. He could have easily scored 30 last night and would love to see him have a little more confidence in that outside jumper. That lay up to end the half was a man's NBA play.

Monk will be praised a lot of games but he will probably have a few duds this season as he is a great athlete but I see him continue to shoot the ball on a off day and may not have the experience just yet to let the game come to him.

After three regular season games, Fox is 0-7 from 3 point land. Hawkins is 0-3. Briscoe is 1-6. That's 1-16.......6%.. It would be extremely helpful if that changed.

I don't think it's a confidence issue with Fox. If it was you would think that would have an effect on the rest of his game. He's perfect at the line, is aggressive driving and on the fast break, and distributing the ball well. I think it's just a case of the shots not falling. He hasn't really been missing left and right, maybe he's just too amped up.

Maybe his threes start falling. Maybe they don't. I feel good though about the shooters we do have in Monk, Willis, Hawkins and Mulder. The problem I have about this team is rebounding and 3 point defense. It's a good thing Michigan State couldn't throw it in the ocean because they shot a lot of threes.

Most of those threes were desperation and outside of their sets. They were forced into them by our defense. They don't have a lot of shooters (they were 8-25 against Arizona), so clearly we were pushing them into stuff Cal felt they couldn't make with any consistency.

I think this is actually one of Fox's problems. He seems to be shooting the ball on a whim rather than in a set. He sees the guy back off, he stops, he decides to shoot...it's a very methodical process. Again it's sort of where Briscoe was last year.

The best shots are stitched into the offense and part of its rhythm. Fox is just basically jacking stuff up right now arbitrarily.

Michigan State also went so slow and were up against the shot clock on an enormous amount of possessions.

This is going to be one of the major strengths Kentucky has this season. The major strength. The fact that teams are going to be so scared to run with us that they try and milk the shot clock is going to make it really hard to play smooth, instinctive basketball. Our speed is a dangerous psychological weapon.

If there's one thing that gets me excited, it's watching our D force our opponents into shot clock turnovers. To me, that's the best indicator of vicious team defense and we need to do LOTS more as the season grinds on.

Cats are playing very well this season so far. The Freshmen mostly trying to find their footing still. The 2+ season players are trying to get back into the swing of things and get going better. I know abit later on all of them will be on a good level and playing alot better, and not have so many bad days. Cal is still doing a great job coaching this team to their best.

Willis was open on several occasions and not passed the ball...for whatever reason. He simply quit working to get open and Cal sat him. Same thing happened early last season before he became an option.

I didn't see this happening, but if true he needs to shoot the ball when he gets it and is open.

The last two games he's passed up a few wide open shots after he's been thrown the basketball. And then he compounds that by getting killed on some easy rebounds.

Not sure what the deal is with him but Kentucky badly needs him whether it be as a starter or off the bench. We have so few jumpshooters that he could be a devastating player even if he just played kind of a Kyle Wiltjer role and came in to hit some shots.

I just don't see any bad or ugly in this game at all. Of course it wasn't perfect if you analyze each and every detail but for young men in the National spotlight for the first time playing against Hall of Fame coach Tom Izzo and Michigan State, what more do you want?? This team came out and smacked Michigan State around with some of our key players having mediocre games, we are going to be fine......
