I was there last night and had great seats close to the floor, and this is my take. Fox is very fast and can break ankles with how quick he moves. Monk is tremendously talented and will be hard to guard. Briscoe is a strong gifted player who will get his the hard way. Bam is a beast, but with the lack of any competition last night, Willis is stronger on the boards, and has improved his hustle on defense. Gabriel, will grow and mature into a major factor by mid season. SKJ is so smooth, and like Gabriel, will get better each game. Mulder was impressive, and his hustle on D and outside shot will get him PT. Didn't see much from Hawkins. Humphries is a strong presence inside, and can hit the 15' shot regularly. Wynyard is huge, but won't play much because he looks lazy, especially when he takes a break during fast breaks. Asbury was a feisty bunch, and was a decent test for our guards with their press. Our kids shared the ball very well, and if they keep that up, they will be hard to beat because the first 8-9 are so quick and fast.

As far as Wynyard goes. I am pulling for him. He seems a little slow and his confidence isnt the best. It could be he face is holding him back a bit too. His speed seems like a real issue to me right now. Watching Humphries I can tell hes hard on himself. He seems very frustrated all the time.

I doubt you'd be as keen on this if it actually happened.

And it did happen with Tubby Smith. I can't remember anyone back then saying, "You know, I prefer this than blowing teams out. At least we learned." They wanted to fire Tubby.

The problem is with the rules as they are, it's hard to find teams that can give you a test. Even if you pick out really good D2 teams--as Duke did Friday night, playing the defending D2 national champ--those teams have lost everything and are inevitably rebuilding.

That team last night was a victim of their own style. They weren't going to change it to play Kentucky, no matter how badly they were going to get beat.

I had to get up and walk away. Embarrassing, humiliating, unnecessary. I feel as sorry for the fans who pay money to witness this debacle as much as I do for Asbury. I hope their payday was worth the beating.

They got $25,000 according to the TV guys last night. So that will salve some wounds. Asbury knew what was coming so I don't feel sorry for them. In fact they said they still had fun in spite of the beating. They were not going to go away from their style which was basically a run and gun offense will little defense. When you play that style against a superior talented team like UK then you are going get bludgeoned. If they had slowed it down then they would have lost by 60 instead of 93. Not really that much difference IMO.
            Kentucky fan since 1971.

I would've loved to have played for Asbury. Two dribbles over halfcourt and jack it up? Sign me up for that. And because of that style they'll win some games.

But if the shots aren't falling it's a system that can really get you pummeled, as we saw. So many long rebounds and run-outs. But against similar competition they're going to be able to score some points and make it entertaining, which is the point of the system. Get the players having fun and you can bring in better players.

We had no business playing that team, IMO. I doubt it did this team any good at all. An intra squad scrimmage would have been more competitive.

And there is nothing to be taken from that game other than we can dunk.

Unfortunately the game Friday night is going to be a beatdown and probably won't tell us that much either.

Stephen F. Austin lost virtually their whole team, including Thomas Walkup. They'll be a shell of the good team they've had the last couple of years.

One thing they will be able to do is get back and force us into some halfcourt stuff. That's where you don't know if Kentucky can be elite yet. We know they can run and they're jaw-dropping fast. But can they play a half-court rock fight? All good college basketball teams can play both ways.

Felt like I watched a video game last night lol lol lol....

Do we have a chance to dominate college this year, I think so. Weak team or not, that was a pure all out assault............

If there is anything to take away from the game last night, was the press defense Asbury played. Early on, it gave us some problem, first because it was a surprise, and they played it very physical. One time, right in front of me, they trapped Briscoe and he and # 4 got in a mild shoving match. It was fun to see the look on Briscoe's face. Cal tried hard to get them to run some offense, but for the most part, it didn't work. I'm surprised Asbury got only $25,000, but to a small school like them, that buys a lot of gas for the bus they ride to away games.

The commentator mentioned a new scoreboard. I didn't think $25k would be enough for that.

Anybody who presses this team is in for total annihilation.

I still think Kentucky is going to see a steady, relentless diet of 2-3 zones this season and teams trying to play in the 50s/low 60s.

If you speed the game up you're basically handing the game to us. Too many guys who can kill you on the break.

I always thought that was an underrated thing about the great team we had with Towns. They would blitz you in transition. Devin Booker never got credit for how fast he was. These guys are faster.

For the scoreboard they use, probably more than enough.

It's not like they're hanging Rupp's scoreboard in their gym.

I wish Cal would have stopped with the run outs say after being up by 100 just set up some half court. I have no idea how our half court offense is and can we shoot? We did hit a few threes. Not Trying to just trash the whole game just saying a little more competition would benefit everyone.
