T-Minus 57 and counting: Big Blue Madness Thread

Time to get ready for the Madness. I know it is boring on TV but at least we will get a little shot to see more on this team.

As usual, Coach Mitchell dancing, girls throwing shirts and a bunch of SEC Talking heads. Man this is one event that ex UK player should run for SEC Network.

This is the entire Madness thread? Seriously? It's UK BASKETBALL people!! With that said, the TV coverage was horrible. But it was great to finally see the team. And I nearly cried during the men's intro video. No surprise there though. I've only made it to Rupp for one Madness, and I sat in the stands alone and cried like a baby during the intro video.

This is it because the event is just terrible to watch. I used to like this when I was a kid 35-40 years ago. As I got older, especially now, I cannot believe anyone would campout for that. You don't see anything or can accurately guage anything. I used to watch it on tv but I can't even do that now. When it was all about the guys I was ok with it. I could care less about the womens team and Matthew Mitchell looks like an idiot out there.

My wife and I went. It was fun as usual but also as usual, there's not much to it. If you've seen one you've seen 'em all.

The video board was the most amazing thing. Makes an incredible amount of difference. You don't know how many times I've sat there in Rupp and squinted at those horrible corner video boards as they've shown a replay. No more.

As far as the players, the most interesting thing about Kentucky is that we have two point guards. Briscoe and Fox were the two best players on the court but both seem to need the ball in their hands. Briscoe was incredible and got literally everything he wanted....but he had the ball. That will be the biggest challenge for Cal and I can see some growing pains as he and the staff try to figure it out.

Was also impressed with Wenyen Gabriel. He can do things I didn't expect him to do. BIG TIME athlete for his size and more skilled than you'd think. Could be a future superstar but we're not going to see anywhere near his ceiling at UK.

The shooting will be a concern but I saw the John Wall team practice once. They did a drill where almost nobody in the gym could make a shot. Cal made a joke about it afterward. That team last night did a shooting drill for 5 minutes and most of the shots fell. Fox looks farther along than Wall as far as shooting, and Monk may not be a great three-point shooter but he has a devastating one-drill pull-up from 18 feet.

I think that Madness is more for impressing recruits now more than anything. It's getting away from basketball and focusing more on flash and flare.

BBM has been about the glitz and glamour for at least 20 years. I don't care near as much about it as I used to. I DVR it now and watch later. I have no interest in the women's program and I just fast forward through all of that. In fact I can watch what I want to of it in about 30 minutes that way. About all you can tell from that the other night is that UK has some great athletes and they are very fast this year. Of course if you watched the practice and few days before on ESPNU you could see that. The next event is the Blue/White game which is Oct 21 at 7 pm on the SEC Network.

This BBN family in CA looks forward to BBM every year (remember I'm a newbie compared to y'all) I wish I was fortunate like a lot of you to attend Madness, Blue & White or any game at Rupp Arena-don't take it for granted living driving distance you are blessed! Is it getting flasher and flasher? Yes but that is about marketing to the recruits in attendance and those watching...
The video game me the chills I can't imagine experiencing watching that in person, I also liked the drama of Michael Buffer introducing the players talk about great marketing!
I also liked the video that welcomed the new players to the family and kept it honest to current and future players: UK is not for everybody!
Looking forward to Oct 30th...yes, not a real apponent but I just want to see them play someone....
