North Carolina Hate

There have been a few Carolina Teams I liked. When Perkins played for them I followed them. Was always a fan of Perkins, Worthy, not so much MJ.

My hate towards UNC is not team related as much as Fan and Media Related. All we have ever heard as UK fans is IU / PUKE and UNC have done things the right way. Never did a thing wrong. More like had never gotten caught. UNC / DUKE and INDIANA have all been in trouble but you just don't hear as much about it. UNC will somehow get pushed under the rug with a slap on the face to all KENTUCKY fans (somehow) but a slap on the wrist to UNC.

That is what generates a bunch of fans hate, not just KENTUCKY Fans hate.

I dont hate UNC, I hate Indiana and Duke. Losing to Indiana is a horrible loss.

I think they, their fans, Dean Smith (RIP), and Roy Williams are sanctimonious about their program in a way that isunparalleled in college athletics. I like them to be good and lose to us. I HATE seeing them have success when we are out.

Great game by Villanova, way to knock off the Tar Heels. It's now safe to say that J. Wright officially has street cred, hope UK keeps that in mind when Calipari gets ready to leave or retire down the road...............

My dislike started with Dean Smith and the four corners.

Recall watching our superior team get beat by them in the Regional Finals (was it '77 as someone said above....seems like longer ago). Most boring game I've ever seen. Game that essentially brought about the 35 sec. shot clock as NC would get a lead and freeze the ball for minutes each possession....boring the defense to death until they could get a lay-up. Good ol' Dean Smith. No love lost here for him. Almost ruined the game.

For the record, I hated the four corner off. and, yes, it was very boring, but it was legal. I can't understand people hating on a coach because he was using something that was legal to his advantage.

The thing about Dean Smith and UNC was that he usually had more talent than the other team but still used it. I always thought he used just to try and show how "smart" he was and that he could use any system and still win. It was just his smugness coming through was how I saw it.

This is how I viewed it. No different than today's Wisconsin/Virginia/Villinova running the slowdown end-of-shot-clock offense now-a-days to slow down a run-and-gun team. To me it was just a boring game and the powers-that-be saw that and made the rule change (ie, shot clock). Heck I think Wisconsin scored 17? points in the first half of one of their tourney games this year......boooooorrrrrrrriiiiiiiinnnnnngggggggg. Ticket scalpers were selling those tickets on the cheap, said it was barely more exciting/cheaper than watching paint dry!

I think dislike for programs is either a result of their success(Kansas, Indiana, UNC), pompous attitude by general fan base (Duke), or untouchable programs (Duke, UNC) from media/NCAA perspective. If UK did what UNC did, we would be on probation by now yet things with UNC are eerily quiet! Meanwhile UL banned themselves from post season and posted additional sanctions today. Guess UNC thinks they are getting off easy?? Been to a couple UK vs Duke games and Duke fans were extremely obnoxious! Add the fact we lost both games made their attitude even worse. Yes, I think a true UK fan is watching the total wins gap, total NC gap, head to head gap, etc. etc.. We have a thirst to be the benchmark for all programs to be compared and it hurts when our "great" teams fall short of expectations or we see other blueblood programs getting a "free pass".

I hated losing to them last year but overall they arent a big deal to me. All the stars aligned that day.
