    North Carolina Hate

Why? Why do so many UK fans despise UNC? I know we have played them in the past on a yearly basis, but I don't really think anything about them makes them a rival. I understand the ill feelings towards Duke and obviously UofL, but outside of our conference I don't really think we have a rival other than Louisville. It isn't just this academic scandal either. UK fans have disliked UNC as log as I can remember. Outside of UK, Tyler Hansbrough was one of my favorite college players. I just didn't know if there was something I was missing.

I think a lot of the feelings have come this year with the diabolical way the NCAA has handled one of the worst case of cheating ever in College basketball, and they are still playing.

It's more than that. My dislike for UNC has grown ten fold since Roy Williams became thwir coach. I can't stand that guy.

Well...they're our closest competitor stats wise, and they have quite the winning record against us all-time. Until Cal they've been "it" far more than UK, the previously "blue collar" program.

Ding, ding, ding here we have, in my opinion, the winner. We have eight titles. Three of the teams UK fans rail on the most (Duke, UNC and Indiana) have five each. Another team (Kansas) the fans love to hate is only 25 victories behind us on the all time win list. I don't want anyone who has posted, or will post, in this thread to take this personally, as I'm speaking as a generalization, but I feel this is the biggest reason UK fans hate schools like UNC, Duke etc.

You know, "hate" is such a strong word.

I was pulling hard for Nova last night for the reasons stated above. I did not want UNC to narrow the gap between us and them in total titles and I do not want them to narrow the gap between us in total wins. Yeah, I don't particularly like Roy Williams, but I do not "hate" UNC.

Now, Duke, Indiana and Notre Dame ...

Mine goes back to 1977 when UK lost to them in the East regional final. El Deano showed his butt that game and I never like him after that. I always thought he was a phony. For many years these two were one and two in the all time wins and add to the fact they are one of the few teams to have a winning record against UK. Now all this mess they have and honestly there's not much to like about them.

For a long time it was a hate but respect thing. I could hate for them to get closer to us in titles but thought they for the most part did things right and had a heck of a tradition. No more. Now everyone knows they've cheated worse than anyone and the suspicion the NCAA does its best to look the other way is confirmed. They may wind up having to punish them but only because the general public would not let this scandal go away quietly.

My dislike started with Dean Smith and the four corners.

Really disliked unc from a long time ago. He did the coach k thing long before k. After a UK unc game, deno ran out
on the court and lambasted Rick Robey calling him a dirty and thugish player. That and the 4 corners made deano
unlikable for me. Their sanctimonious attitude always made me suspect that they were not as saintly as they
pretended to be. Dean and John Wooden were cheaters and knew what was going on, but the NCAA and the coastal
sports writers never called them to task on their wrong doing.
