I've never understood Cal's dislike for the zone, especially when you consider how his personality seems to be to try different things. It's just an odd thing to be stubborn about.

Cal doesn't like zone because he feels like if you have the better players, a zone isn't necessary. It's being complacent.

If you have the bigger, stronger, more athletic players (which Cal does 95% of the time), then man-to-man will eventually overwhelm the opponent. I agree with this almost exclusively.

The few times that he's thrown a zone in just to test the waters, it's been a pretty middling affair.

How long has he been at KU? Didn't Tubby recruit him?

He was in the same class as Willie Cauley-Stein. I can remember the recruiting battle; we were one his finalists.

Just seems longer than that; not to mention he looks like he's at least fifty years old.

I don't disagree, but I'm still fascinated by his "don't budge" approach on it.

It's always going to be a middling affair because he doesn't believe in it. He probably only gives a zone a very small amount of time during practice.

If anyone's interested, Va. leads Syracuse 35-21 at the half.

How Virginia blew that game is beyond me. Syracuse is a garbage team with a garbage coach. Didn't deserve to even be in the tourney.

Virginia fans should just give up, they just aren't ever getting to the Final Four.

Have a feeling the NCAA is going to be CRUSHED this week, with these 2 teams in the Final Four. Should have never been in it to begin with.

It still should be a great championship game if UNC and Ok. make it that far.

UVA did make one in 1984. The year after Sampson graduated. They took Houston to overtime in fact in the semis's before losing. No matter what you think of Boeheim as a person he is still a very good coach. That's the only reason I will give Syracuse a punchers chance against UNC. Otherwise that game will be a rout.

I think either Oklahoma or Villanova will give UNC a good game. I don't think either will beat them but should be a good game.
