Va. with a comfortable (45-31) lead over Iowa St. at the half. Wisc. has a slim (17-13) lead over ND in the first half of their game.

Notre Dame wins a great game against Wisconsin, and there are no teams left from last year's Final Four.

Glad to see Wisconsin go down. Shot clocks were being monitored closely it seems.

The end of that game, the first steal, kicking the ball. Did not know you could steal the ball by kicking it. The 2nd steal was also a foul reaching across the body and hitting the guys arm. The 2nd foul could go either way but the first steal (you cannot steal the ball by kicking it.

I didn't get a good look at the first steal because of the angle.

The second steal was absolutely not a foul. Not even close to a foul. Guy just let the ball out way too far from his body and he got it picked.

If you call that a foul games would never end.

Indiana rocketing back to earth, getting throttled by Carolina.

            As I predicted.

I agree - dude was careless with the ball! Defender "picked his pocket" although it was from the front.

What's Dakich got to say? And WOW what a performance from the ACC. Maybe UL can get buried in the ACC basement in the fallout of their scandal to never be heard from again.

The Syracuse/Gonzaga game was very entertaining. Gonzaga sort of just gave it away. I'm not sure if Wiltjer got a touch in the last two minutes or so, which is...strange.

But the most interesting thing in that game was that our friend Doug Sirmons made a horrible, atrocious call that could have given the game to Gonzaga with just a few seconds left. It was an out-of-bounds call on the baeline that he decided to call from the halfcourt line, even though another official was standing on the baseline.

Not only did he jump in to make a weird call that there's no way he could've seen...it turned out to be the wrong call upon replay. They couldn't overturn it because you can apparently only overturn a call when there's a question of which player knocked the ball out. This had to do with just one player's toe being on the line.

Shockingly bad call that ended up not mattering.

I agree that was just a horrible call just from the standpoint he was at mid court when he called it. I saw also our old buddy Pat Adams was doing the UNC/IU game. I didn't watch it all but I guess it was such a rout any stupid call he made didn't matter. I think it shows what an awful state officiating is in when ones like Sirmons and Adams are doing games this late into the tournament.

Yep Gonzaga gave that game away. They couldn't a hit a thing the last six minutes. Wiltjer did take a bad shot with about two minutes remaining that hurt Ganzaga. Sabonis is a beast. He's a lot like his dad.

I imagine if UK had won last week the same thing would have happened to them as what happened to IU. UNC is awfully good. When they have their 3 ball game working, mainly from Paige, they will be nearly impossible to beat. UNC is going to kill ND. I think they beat them by about 40 points just two weeks ago in the ACC.

I think it's hilarious the referees can only do certain things with regards to replays but can't overturn a call like that. If Gonzaga had won the game, the uproar that would have occurred...

I know you don't want refs going rogue, but if all three agree that Syracuse was still in bounds, they should be allowed to give Syracuse the ball.

Furthermore, why did the sideline ref call that, instead of deferring to the baseline ref, who had the clear view? SLR only saw the back of it. Makes no sense.

First, Officials don't make the rules, they follow what the rule committee puts before them. Put the blame where it belongs.

Second. I just watched a replay of the call by Sirmons. If I was the lead official on the baseline, I would have been in his face in the locker room after that game. That call was an embarrassment to all officials. You NEVER go from the trail position to make a call like that because there is no way you can be confident in what you think you saw. From the C position maybe, if your penetrated down close enough, or if the Trail has fallen or is completely blocked out. If Sirmons moves on to the FF after making a call like that, I will lose more respect for the head of officials. Can you imagine a call like that determining the National Championship?

Off topic but Morehead made it to the finals of the CBI tournament against Nevada in a best two out if three series. Begins Monday night on ESPNU.

Lighthouse, I never blamed the officials. My post definitely inferred that it's out of their control.
