The Last Time UK Played an NCAA Game in Iowa

It was 1966. That was Rupp's Runts. Another undersized team that relied on guard play. That year they played in Iowa City in the regionals. UK beat Dayton and Michigan to reach the Final Four. They nearly played Western Ky in the finals. They lost by one point to Michigan. Interestingly the WKU band stayed behind and played the UK fight song during the UK/Michigan game as the UK students were on spring break. I doubt Indiana would do that if they lose out Thursday evening.

    Kentucky fan since 1971.

I don't know about that. I went to an IU-UK football game in Bloomington, and the IU band played our fight song that day. It really surprised me.

      Shocking! That wouldn't happen today.

I can't remember the year, but Dennis Johnson had a temper tantrum and we lost.

I wonder if that was the 2001 season? The IU game was postponed that year because of the 911 attacks and wasn't played until about December. I could see that happening during that time.

I don't think so, because I don't remember it being very cold that day. I wish I could remember, but you know how old folks are.

It must have been 1999. The two away games Dennis played against Indiana were 1999 and 2001.

2001 was the only year in that span that Kentucky lost, if I'm reading the history correctly. Like Kevin said, it makes sense due to the attitude in this country after 9/11.

Side note WCN fam- Just want to know if you've heard if lots of BBN is heading to IA for the tourney, folks coordinating charter buses for the 10 hour ride or flying (I looked up flights want like $600!)...just curious. I hope to see a sea of blue Thursday night to show that committee like Cal said "You won't steal my joy!"
