Tubby Smith Wins Sporting News' Coach of the Year

It seems like a quarter-century since he coached here.

Are they going to make the NCAA tournament for sure?

It will be close but they will probably get in because the Big 12 is the best conference.

Good for Tubby. He's winning at a place that is nearly impossible to win. Minnesota is left with egg on their face as they hired a Pitino to replace Tubby and are now left with a sex scandal.
        Kentucky fan since 1971.

I'm glad for the man. He was obviously frustrating at times, but I always liked him.

Not a big fan of his stint at Kentucky, but he was always respectable. Glad he's found a modicum of post-UK success.

                  Yes.

For just the second time in Big 12 history, the Conference has a repeat choice for Player of the Year as Oklahoma's Buddy Hield has earned the honor for the second straight campaign.

Good for Tubby Smith, always thought Tubby could have been more than great if he didn't let his stubborn ways get the best of him. Great defensive coach and good off the court but i think a big part of his hire to Kentucky was the fact that WE ALL ASSUMED he would keep Rick's style of play in tact. For the first few years it worked, after that, it all went down hill from there and he was simply out of touch with the recruiting game of college basketball.

Glad he's doing well, thanks for the Championship and yes he did a helluva coaching tjob against Duke that year when we where down with 9 to go.

As an aside, Tubby's team was hammered by hapless TCU last night.

Can I just say that the 2003 Wildcats were one of my all time favorite teams and it still drives me crazy that they didn't win it all. (Not as crazy as 2015 falling short )

Co-signed. Still wear my Suffocats T-shirt. It's a smedium now, but I manage to stretch it on like a cat wriggling into a Kleenex box.

And I wear that shirt not only because I liked that team, but how awesome is that nickname?

THE SUFFOCATS. Whoever thought of that needs some kind of medal.
